i like carpenters pencils for jotting down notes and stuff. doesnt roll, hard to lose/miss. sometimes simple is best. pens get annoying when they dont write for a bit...

I hardly ever use pencils or pens, but sometimes do. Sometimes it's easier to quickly draw down something on paper then to do it on the PC, like a quick flow chart or something.

I never use pencils. I can't even use non-mechanical pencils anymore - the noise and feeling they generate while writing is akin to someone scratching a chalkboard to me. It sets my teeth on edge. When I was still in school, I'd use 0.5mm mechanical pencils, but now I exclusively use pens for the very infrequent writing I do.

I have to draw things out constantly so it's a pencil or a whiteboard. HAVE to be able to erase stuff. Prefer the whiteboard.

isn't the smell terrible?

if i am working at home on drawings for a project, or design for something i use a pencil, at work, in the field i have sharpies and ball points all teh time.

Sometimes. If I'm doing sketches for a project I'll use a mechanical pencil. Otherwise I use a pen/Sharpie.

I have a mechanical pencil and a pen above the F keys on my keyboard at work and use them every day. I have a habit of grabbing a scrap of paper and writing down a couple of weeks worth of notes then trying to figure out what the hell this cramped mess is supposed to be.

I don't use a pencil for math, nor do I require my students to use pencil, except on graphs on their final exam.

I use a pencil for marking wood when I'm doing any carpentry - it sands off a heck of a lot easier than ink. So, rather regularly.

I use mechanical pencils every so often, not very regularly. I ended up grabbing some wood pencils from the office supply room, not really thinking over my choice. Whoever purchased the pencils didn't think it over too well, either. The thing is that I can't find a pencil sharpener anywhere to save my life.

You can't pencil fight with pens, and school is about pencil fighting 1st, learning 2nd. So pencils win by default here.

The lack of pencil use outside of school and construction is the reason Nasa spent an assload of money on developing a pen that would work in zero gravity..
