Right. Well, YOU have your own board here.

I do not see the reason to post across a billion boards to try to recruit people.

If you dont mind, stop it.

Thanks

Well we picked up quit a few new members because of that thread. So that shows some people were interested in the projects but didn't know anything about them. I'm sure they're glad that Paulson started the thread. As for the people who didn't like it, well off topic means off topic. It's a general forum where people discuss pretty much everything including hobbies which our distributed computing projects are to us. I see nothing wrong with going to a place like that and asking people if they want to check out one of our hobbies and maybe join us.

Paulson I commend you for helping all the projects including seti to gain a few new members at the expense of all that ridicule.:) Next time please be a little more carefull with the title of the thread though;) Although it did generate a lot of interest.:D

ParasiticFly,

Obiously Anand cares enough about Distributed Computing to give it a home forum. Also, the moderators obiously care enough about it to not lock the threads in GH and OT, as long the DC community doesn't get out of hand and start posting wildly over there (i.e. 100's of new posts). One thread every couple of days doesn't hurt anything...There are many people who pass through those forums and may find Distributed Computing interesting enough to stop by this forum to take a look at it...A look that may not have been except one little thread over there...

Many of the people here (including Paulson) have worked their @sses off for this team and these FORUMS....Someday, you may be one...But as of now, there are other terms that could possibly be attached to your title...

......

Fly- I have to agree with the other members of this forum. We have set guidelines to our threads and are not breaking them in any way(if they were the mods would lock them). It seems whenever Paulson posts a thread he is slammed and picked on which is bullsh*t. He and a few other people have done alot for TA and I commend them for all their hard work.

IF YOU DONT LIKE IT DONT READ IT!!!

Yes Fly. Off topic means you can post basically anything so get back to your "Who is hotter, Brittney Spears or Christina Agullara?" Type threads.

Huh? The reason he posts in other boards is because that's where the people are that are not cracking. He should try and recruit in the Distributed Computing Forum? People here are already doing it.

Ya' know, I understand why some people get irritated by Paulson's recruiting efforts, but I will never understand their vitriolic attacks on him. Why don't they simply ignore the post? There is no rule requiring you to open and read every post in the BBS.

There's a reason for the posts in the other forums.

If you don't like them, then move on to another thread/topic. It's that simple.

And please, don't come into our forum and complain about it. :|

Fly,

You're a newbie, so I'm going to be uncharacteristically patient. The Moderators have sanctioned the recruiting threads in GH and OT. Until they say otherwise, we will continue our efforts.

The way that I see it, the only way for Parasitic Fly to redeem himself is to join Team Anandtech.

I personally know some members that only visit one forum for what ever reason... so an OT post to let them know that something really cool is going on with TA is great. If we are to grow and get more members woulden't it only make sence to start at ground 0, anandtech.com?

Anybody- I kinda got that impression from his/her posts as well. :| We could be wrong .. but either way he/she is making a complete jackass of themself.

That's exactly what I've been thinking. I'm guessing there's some sort of reason why it hasn't been done yet, but who knows. There is the antimated gif for distributed computing on the main page, but how many people are actually going to click on it? I ran a test the other day and had one of my friends from work browse the main page and tell me what he though was the most interesting. Just as I thought, he didn't think the animated gif was one of the most interesting things on the page, as one normally ignores all flashing banners. He did, however, like the articles. That's no brainer. It wouldn't be a bad idea for Anand to post an article explaining to the public what distributed computing is, and how easy it is to help TA.
