I buy open box all the time but be warned, always assume that open box includes NOTHING except the bare mobo itself. No I/O shield, manual or anything.

I've done the same (maybe not as many). Many motherboard manufacturers will send you an I/O shield if you request it from their support department. A few try to charge you but most don't.

I've had excellent luck with open box.

I have purchased a few open box items from Newegg, a P5K mother board being one of them. It came complete and worked perfectly.....

Right, you have to contact customer support, and they look at your order history and waive any fees for you. (BTW, works for me too 😉 )

My concern is that this is not their written policy and I don't want people to get the wrong idea and expect that. The average Joe with two orders from Newegg spread out over three years may not see that level of service.

My experience: ordered open box and got a brand new, sealed mboard with all accessories. Woot. Course, that balanced out by ordering a new item a few years later and getting one that was an open box return. At least it was just an antenna, not something expensive.

I wouldn't risk it on any item that's popular with younger overclockers. You could luck out, or you could get something intended for a suicide OC run.

As I said, I wasn't sure if it was "for me" or if anyone could do it. My brother rarely buys from newegg and he gets the same service I do. I just think people don't try hard enough.
