I'm against this retroactive cleaning up and publishing of the unfinished works of great writers. If she had wanted to publish it she would have.

It's not really a sequel. It was written prior to Mockinbird, essentially the original book she wrote, before the publisher asked her to rewrite the story from the perspective of the younger Scout. Apparently someone just found the manuscript.
Righto. It was thought lost. Harper Lee is 84, she's in an assisted living facility. She's shied away from publicity, it was all too much for her and she was content to have written one really successful book.
