I only want to connect two computers to each other using win2k or me if necessary. speed is not a big deal at all. a 10mbit hub is not VERY expensive, but I could use crossover cable. what should I do? it is just for home use, to share the internet and data.

if you have 10/100 nic cards in your computers and you use a crossover it will give you the full 100. But that doesnt give way to much expandability in the future. If you dont plan on having more than 2 computers networked just stay with the crossover

Get the crossover cable. It's cheaper, and it will be faster then a 10Mbit hub (assuming you have 100Mbit cards).

EDIT: Damned young people with fast fingers!:D

If you don't really care then make a crossover cable and be done with it.

You can always add a hub later if you add a few more computers. Hubs are always going on sale so just keep an eye open for a "Hot Deal" then buy one.

Hmmm...this a tough one..I would suggest a 24 port Cisco switch, I hear they have a nice big backplane, which will come in handy someday when you upgrade!

In case there is still any question... Xover cable!

You will likely end up with a combo router nat firewall hub in the future and the hub you buy today will be worthless.......
