I picked up my copy of FarCry last night at BestBuy. Still on sale for $30. Couldn't turn that deal down. That should be the deciding factor if anybody is thinking about getting it but is hesitant.

yup, i got mine for $25 yesterday at BB too (make sure you look for gamer's gift cards in the console games section of your BB, you buy the gift card and put any amount on there that you want to (I just put $25 on there), and it comes with a $5 coupon towards any video game/computer game.

Went like this...
1) get gamer's gift card from console section, go to checkout
2) put $25 on the card (since I know it will come to 24.99 with tax once you use the coupon inside of the gift card case)
3) walk outside, open up gift card case, put gift card in wallet, and put $5 off coupon in wallet
4) walk back inside, pick up far cry (priced at $29.99)
5) check out and use coupon, makes the price 24.99
6) use $25 gift card, total due comes to like 1.86 (tax)
7) go home and play Far Cry until 3 in the am

I think it's really cool, reminds me a lot of SOF2, which is a good thing IMO. The AI seems pretty good, they try to circle around you and hide when a couple has been downed with the sniper :(

If you like slow moving FPS this is definately a good buy.

To all those trying to tweak Farcry just go to the "configure Far Cry" shortcut -> Video Options (Advanced) -> Customize and then use the arrows in the top to get to all the different tabs.

After hearing all the fuss I tried that farcry demo and I was quite dissapointed.

The game played suprizingly slow on my 9800 np and considering the speed it didn't look that great. I mean that it wasn't much of an improvement over other current games, I only set the visuals at high at 1024x768. It had plenty of bugs and gameplay, I thought, was quite bad. Nowere close to the level of Half Life and I definetly don't think is will come close to HL2 in any way.

Am I missing something, something with my settings or is the full game realy that much better then the demo?

the retail game is much more polished than the demo - and plays quite differently.

there were also issues that radeon's had with the demo, which apparently were resolved in the cat 4.4: -Display corruption is no longer seen when playing the demo version of the game Far Cry.

but depending on your system, that may also limit you on the details you car run.. at any rate, comparing it to hl2 is a bit ridiculous; hl2 is still vaporware at this point, so there's no point making comparisons before it actually gets released.

it is arguably the best sp fps since hl, and has received very good reviews (both press and users). i enjoyed it, and many others have, but it may or may not appeal to you.

Most people are trying to set the vid card properties to high, but it should be set to default, and application preference. The game settings are where you have to make changes not the video card properties in display properties.

I've seen FarCry play smooth on a Geforce 3 Ti500.

Sorry that you are having problems, I always want to be able to jump out of my computer to help people get the best of the gaming experience.

Set my settings to very high in the demo. All settings except for the texture detail changed to very high but texture detail showed medium for some reason. I think this was only a bug as my textures definitely looked much better then before.

Well this time the quality was quite nice. Somewhat on the level of 3DMark03 nature test. Nice full terrain with nice textures. The water still looks horrible and flat when swimming in it but great far away.

Performance wasn't that bad, possibly because I disabled all the programs that may have been running before.

Although I still don't think it compares to the Half Life videos available or in gameplay.
