To flash or not.

Hey folks,
I have a brand new built by ATI 9800 pro 256 meg R350 core Hynix ram.
After doing some research i determined i can flash it to an XT.
my research did however indicate that the temp probe and overdrive will not work but the stock clock will be faster.
Using Atitool I am able to adjust the clock and memory easily to XT speeds with no artifacts on a 1000 second scan.
So my question is this. Should I flash this card and risk voiding the warrenty?
I would do it without question if i could get the temp probe and overdrive, but since i can get to XT clock and mem speeds is it worth it?
thanks in advance.
Heres a link to the card

why not just overclock it to xt speeds? flashing it will do the same thing and you will void your warrenty. I wouldnt flash an r350 core 😛

yes don't go by what AtiToll and such tell you in software what core it is, they just read from the bios so you actually have to physically look under the heatsink to see if it's a r360 or not.

That's right. It reads the core info from the BIOS and not the actual core.

me too, my msi 9800pro has a r360 core but the msi 9800xt version of it doesnt even have the thermal probe and optimizations. 🙁

Yup its a 360 alright.
Now with as5 so thats gotta help temps a little.
guess I'm a flashing foo now
How do I save my old bios and can i flash back if I need to?
BTW IMHO thats the prettiest chip i have ever seen real shiny and stuff.

yeah, from what I've heard DON'T TRY flashing it if it's an R350, flash the hell out of it, however, if it's an R360 😀

Ok folks im back.:frown:
Downloaded the correct bios image and drdos and flashrom.
Went through the process of saving my old bios to an image np.
Comanded the new bios be flashed with flashrom -f 0 xxxx.bin.
floppy made noise and after about 10 seconds I get the A: prompt.
reboot into xp go to 3dmark 03 and my gpu is still a pro.
when I used the -i string I get the device listing that says core 300-350 and locked. what that means I do not know.
i did notice that when I used the -s and -i modifier the sreen flashed breifly and then came back, but when I flashed using -f I just got an A: prompt.
help here folks I have been reading all the guides I can google and so far nothing.
thanks for all the help.Jerome
