To Democratic Voters : Would You Switch sides if . . .

I consider myself a *gasp* liberal. I also think there is a lot of truth to the mantra 'It only takes 20 years for a liberal to become a conservative without changing a single ideal,' so I guess i'm heading that route right now 😉

Anyways, right now I find myself in an odd sistuation, I absolutly hate kerry, but I hate bush more. My vote will go to Kerry if Illinois is a swing state, to a 3rd party if not.

I also subscribe to the belief that the president has little (but not none) to do with the economy, which means as much as I hate to admit it I don't see a turnaround under Kerry (at least not until late in in the term) which means '08 will be an intersting election year.

My question is this : I have a lot of respect for McCain, especially looking at his voting record and the fact he's willing to go against the party line on many issues, and if he runs in '08 I would vote for him in a hearbeat over almost any democratic candidate (certainly any democrat I can think of currently). I know some other demo/liberal voters agree with me, but I'm curious how many, hense the poll.

McCain is sane. Seems to be a man of principle. I was liking him so much in 2000, I was amazed that he fell over so easily to Bush - I wondered at the time if the Bush people had something on him. I think he would have done better in the debates against Gore, so maybe in November as well. We'll never know.

So, if the question is, would I vote for McCain after 4 years of Kerry, I wouldn't want to say until seeing how Kerry is as president. On the other hand, if the question is would I vote for McCain after another 4 years of Bush, that's another matter altogether. Under that scenario, in the unlikely circumstance that there would be an election in 2008, I would probably want to get as far away from the Republican Party as possible and would vote for your dog, Spot, to effect a change.

It depends on his platform--and his party platform.

As I wrote in another thread--Its not about Democrats vs Republicans.

Its about America, its policies, and if those policies tend to support our democratic principles.

That is what America stands for--and that is why it is so great.

Its about the high principles on which this country was founded.

I will not support policy that goes against democratic principles.

I think the circle jerk is about that fact that he deoesn't seem to be a tool of his political party. He appears to do what he thinks is right and not sell out to special interest. If he ran, I'd definately give him consideration. I'm a liberal, but I liked the old style republicans that talked about smaller government and financial responsibility, not the hacks that call themselves republican now.

Impossible to answer. I might vote for him in 04' if the Repubs had brains enough to run him. 08' is defferent, who was president and how well did they do?
