The key in DC is to set your own hours. I live 30 miles from work, straight up the 95. If I leave for work between 6 and 8:30 it will take 65 minutes +- 5 minutes. If I leave at 9 (which I do) it takes 35 minutes.

Going home is trickier because of all of the NY/NJ/PA/FL morons driving through the area. Between 3:30 and 6:00 it takes about 80 minutes +- 5 minutes. After 6:00 takes about 45-50 minutes.

Add 10 minutes to any commute if there is an unusually large number of vehicles from Maryland because they drive like maniacs and cause everybody to slam on their brakes or swerve to avoid them.

EDIT: Forgot to add that during the evening commute, if the sun is at an elevation between 10-15 degrees and there's a curve and a slope (i.e. Alexandria area and Occoquan) be ready to stop for no reason at all. Add 10 more minutes. Repeat until the season changes.

Back when I was going to college in Philly, I was coming from Central, NJ. It took my car about a good hour to get to the train (PATCO) and then it took the train 25 minutes to get to my stop. I woke up at 5am almost every morning to make that commute and sometimes came home at 12pm. Somehow I still made Dean's List.

something to definitely be proud off.....:)

When she used to work downtown, which was only 10 miles farther away than she travels now, it could take her anywhere from 2-2.5 hours to get home. Atlanta rules!!! Keep moving here you bastages!!!

I'm a recent transplant (1.5years ago or so) to the ATL, so I'm one of those bastages ;)

I agree though. It's truly ridiculous sometimes. I used to work in Alpharetta and live in midtown, and then I switched and lived in Alpharetta and then ended up switching to work downtown! It was a 1+ hour commute at best, and a 2+ hour at worst. It's absolutely aggravating.
