I said vonage wasn't going to do good...No one ever believes me...5.88% drop on the first day. True, I'm not market saavy, but vonage has a lot of competition, and their customer service sucks (I have vonage btw...)

edit: $14.84 is what cnn has now, 12% drop from the IPO? Whoo-whoo-hoo-hoo, oh yah edited for spelling also

yes? then don't ever do voip.

I can see it now. You are stumbling around the kitchen and the lights go out. This causes you to trip and fall. You land on a knife and stab yourself in the face a few times. Now you have no power and can't find your way to the phone. Even if you did find the phone it doesn't work because the power is out. Damn you VOIP!!!

You reach into your pocket to get your cell phone. You flip it open and realize you forgot to charge it and it is dead. Damn you VOIP!!!

Now your girlfriend doesn't hear all this going on because she is in the other room talking on her cell phone. Shes yapping away with her mom about the power outage and different fabrics for the new seat cover for the VW.

I've been pot and POTS free for a few years now...I guess I just like living dangerously

btw...it was foolish to get into this IPO

or, more logically, for people who live in hurricane ridden Florida who lose power for weeks on end. the whole infrastructure gets thrown about for a good 4 months. there is no access to inet let alone power. a solid land line phone is a necessity of life for people in these situations.

think rationally about the situation. there is absolutely no security with VOIP phones and you're at the mercy of your ISP. sure you save money in the short term but at what price would you potentially pay in the long run?

If you can, hold it to get the IPO runup, then sell it.

I was on the fence about buying. I decided against it. If you look at the market analysis and what most analyst say, it looks like it will head straight down the moment it goes public.

The question is, will they be bought out. If so, then you stand a good chance of making some solid money.

I do not believe this will be an IPO that goes up after going public.

Companies who get bought out or who's exit strategy is buyout don't usually go public because it's expensive

We don't need you to point out anything.

I can access "emergency" help will a push of one button on my cell phone or 2 blocks away at the fire station or 2 miles down the road at the hospital.

Not everyone needs a cool POTS line...

Now under $10 a share. IPO buyers who still have their shares have lost over 40% of their money.

Yeah I used to work for Vonage, and still have the service and had the opportunity to get these shares. Was going to go for 5000 shares, glad I didn't...

There was a lot of talk amongst employees about Vonage going public just to sell it off...in fact, that's probably why they moved (you should have seen the head office before Holmdel).

I can't imagine why anyone even useas Vonage, they are one of the worst and most expensive VOIP providers. Sure they advertise a lot, but I'd figure most people who'd be willing to switch to VOIP would also do a little research online first.

Yeah, when I was working there all I kept hearing about was how this wasn't working, that wasn't working, etc. However my ISP is pretty decent (Optimum Online, 15mbps down/2mbps up, pings less than 10ms) and everything's been working perfectly for the last few months. I'm a little irked at the fact that I don't have a "true" 911 service, but everyone in the house has a cellphone so I guess that's backup enough.
