To buy or not? That is the question (need LCD reccomendations, too)

I am seriously considering buying an LCD monitor. Right now I have a Samsung Syncmaster 950p, and I love it, but this SOB is huge. All that screen realestate = no desktop realestate :p I'd like to be able to keep my computer and still have a place to do other work, like homework, research papers, and such. The only thing really stopping me from getting an LCD is justifying the price when I have a working monitor sitting right in front of me. Also, My brain says 17" but my wallet says 15". So I have two questions really: Should I get one or not, and if so, what should I get? I was thinking maybe a Samsung, Viewsonic, KDS RADs, or maybe one of the Envision LCDs (anybody used one of these? haven't had much of a chance to look at them) I would prefer if it were something I could pick up locally, and I know I can get these. Any help will be much appreciated.

Guess I should add: I don't play fast-paced games all that often, so performance (rise/fall time) isn't that big of an issue, but I don't want to see ghosting every time something moves either. Also, I do like to watch DVDs which I know LCDs aren't that good for, but I've got a 20" television sitting right here to watch those on if need be. My video card has both D-sub and DVI - it's a GF3 Ti200 - so the type of connection won't be an issue. And I'm not completely opposed to ordering online; if anybody knows of any good deals, online or B&M stores, please let me know.

Get a Planar w/ coupons (imo, best bang-for-buck), or if you want to know you have the best, go for a Samsung....

subhuman -

I thought about that, and I may still do it. I picked up a KDS RAD-5C today and so far I like it (although there seems to be some ghosting, which most people have said doesn't happen with this series. is the 5C different than just the plain old RAD-5 or are my eyes playing tricks on me?), but I've got thirty days to return it if something better comes up. I can always hope :D.

Check that - I think I will do it. Just got done looking at Dell's small buisness website: Free shipping, a 10% off coupon and a 5% off coupon. Grand total comes to ~316 for a Planar 15 inch. Thought about going to a 16 (and 1280x1024) but the specs on it aren't nearly as good.

RAD-5 goes back tommorow and I get a good chunk of change back :D
