To anyone who uses the Opera browser....

I just downloaded the free version of opera today and I love it so much I might just buy the retail because I want to support the creators of this wonderful browser. My only question is, how often could I come across something that would normally work on internet explorer but not on opera? So far, I've been using it all night with the web-sites that i normally go to and I've had no problems. What doesn't work with Opera, if anything? Can I get rid of internet explorer? Thanks.

Opera 7, in beta now, will render much better'n Opera 6 which does a decent job. Don't "get rid of IE", though, as some online banking and MS-proprietary pages will require it. E.g. you probably will never use Opera to access WindowsUpdate.

I've only had one problem with Opera in the time I used it. I noticed that sometimes if it was loading a large page it would eat all my cpu cycles and render all the other Opera windows useless until it finished loading that single page (because Opera uses a single thread for all your windows). That was 6.04 however and not 6.05 (the latest) so things may have changed in that final version.

I have however never noticed a problem with it's ability to load pages.

I've seen a few sites that don't come up properly with it.. but I really like the browser too.. it's hard to get along in an IE dominated browser world, but Opera does a wonderful job. I've been using that browser for years.

I downloaded 6.5 and some page loads have been a little sketchy, but this was rare and if you toggle the images on and off it usually fixed the problem, whatever it was. My favorite part of it by far are the mouse gestures. It may be a small part to the browser, but I like the little things. I guess I'll be keeping internet explorer, but the shortcut remains hidden in my quicklaunch bar .

I use Opera at work and really like it. I bought the student version for $25 and its worth every penny. Funny thing is, on the home machine the back button on my mouse cases it to go back two pages sometimes. I've narrowed it down to my using a Wireless Intellimouse Explorer at home and the wired version at work. I can't fix it. Also, the extra mouse buttons don't work at all in the beta(to be expected I suppose).

i hated my free version of opera. it sucked. stupid browser thought it downloaded stuff faster. hogwash. BAck on IE.

It's been a while since I tried Opera, but I think I like Phoenix more. You might wast to give it a try while you're checking out new stuff.

Opera renders pages faster, true. It also misses half the stuff it is supposed to load, so that's why... Get Mozilla and save yourself the headache. If you're on a nix box get galeon, it rocks you

doesn't the free version of opera have ads? i think thats why i stopped using it ... as for mozilla i really don't like the netscape look. it isn't as clean.

but its faster.

and there really isn't any "getting rid" of IE. Sure, you can try and remove it through the windows components of control panel, but it's not really gone. you can verify that by "reinstalling it"...there isn't even a process, the icons just come back.
