I think there is a review that points out there is still bugs in driver preventing AA+HDR in Oblivion on 8800.
The drivers have several bugs in them, one of which causes a "fog" to appear in Source based games. Did that stop them from benching HL2: Episode One?

Other's who don't have top-of-the-line hardware available like the Anandtech reviewers do have been able to get HDR+AA working, I'm sure some educated Anandtech benchmarkers can find a way.
I'm getting the vibe from this thread that you guys are accusing Anandtech of being so wrapped up with Nvidia that somehow their reviews suck now.
On the contrary, I believe Anandtech's reviews are some of the more informative ones out there, but when it comes time to realistically bench Oblivion they are always far from practical. Such was the reason for this thread.

I don't need a review to tell me anything about this. All I need to do is load up Oblivion on my PC, and I can clearly see that HDR+AA works perfectly fine.

I don't think anyone is saying or implying that at all. As a matter of fact, benching the 8800GTX against the X1950XTX in Oblvion with HDR+AA would only serve to make the 8800GTX look better.

Actually, the release notes clearly indicate that this is not a driver issue, but an issue on Valve's end that causes fog to be rendered differently on 7-series and 8-series hardware. That being said, they didn't use the 97.02 drivers, so maybe HDR+AA didn't work for AT at that time.

Oh it says it in the release notes? I thought it was a driver issue but I guess you're right.

What drivers were they using? All I saw them say was:
Note that the current version of the driver only allows adjustment of the core and memory clocks, not the shader clock of G80.
The 97.02's were released on November 8th, so I don't know why they wouldn't be using them since they're "the current version".

If they weren't using the most up-to-date drivers therein lies another problem with that review.

does anyone know why the EVGA 8800GTX is consistantly 10 or more fps slower than the Asus or XFX card?

I thought all the initial production G80's were all manufactured by Asus?
