to all those who talked about the G2's "slow" CPU: 1420 MHz

You know, there comes a point where one has to ask one's self, "Why?"

Is the performance at stock really that bad that you need a 42% overclock and the subsequent battery drain to boot?

Why do people climb mountains? Because they are here.

This is a proof of concept thing, most people will not run at 1.4Ghz. Most, I imagine, will run around 1Ghz with a LV kernel of some sort. Whatever the best performance:battery life ration ends up being.

Because we can. :)

because there are people that said that the G2 is already outdated because of its stock clock speed. There is a thread on this forum where someone actually said that the G2 will never receive anything higher than 2.2 because it wasn't 1 GHz.

That and us nerds just love to brag. My linpack scores are already stupid...I can't wait to see what they are with this OC in place.

I called out the G2 for it's slow SoC in general. The Adreno 205 gpu it uses is still slow compared to the PowerVR SGX 540 found in the Galaxy S. Besides a heavily overclocked MSM7230 vs a stock Hummingbird or OMAP 3630 is hardly an apples to apples comparison.

If Gingerbread is believed to have a 1ghz requirement, then the G2 won't be supported officially.

link showing Gingerbread requires 1GHz?

It was a rumor that was quickly debunked by Google themselves.

Because there's such a difference in performance between SoCs, 1Ghz Snapdraon 65nm vs 1Ghz Snapdragon 45nm vs 1Ghz OMAP 3630, such a requirement would be unrealistic.

Edit - There's a good chance that the G2 will get Gingerbread before the D2, the Dx, the Dinc, and likely the Galaxy S phones as well. :p

right.

Some users on here have a very bad habit of posting rumors as facts. Whenever these users post such garbage, I ask for a link.

EDIT:
I made that point. The G2 WILL get Gingerbread sooner than any other phone because its naked Froyo and not sense or blurr.

I did not say...

"Gingerbread has a 1ghz requirement, so the G2 wont be supported officially."

Thanks for the accusation though.

Moot. Gingerbread does not have a 1Ghz requirement. :p

50 bucks says that within a month of the source code being released, you'll be able to get Gingerbread on your G1s.

this is iffy...cyanogen mod 6 is already pushing it in terms of ROM space. if gingerbread is any bigger it may have to be stripped down a bit to fit.

IF Gingerbread requires a physical keyboard, then the Galaxy S series won't be suported officially.

Galaxy S phones will never get Gingerbread because Samsung will have lost interest in them at that point.

just trying to make a point that posting anything other than fact is pointless.
