To all those audiophiles out there

I'm looking for something my Grandma can use as a bedroom stereo, she suggested the Bose Wave... Now I've seen these things advertised on tv before a few years ago, and they're TOO expensive! I doubt it's worth all the 500 you pay for it. I'm looking for similar systems that have a higher rating, but are cheaper, any ideas? I'm not really bashing Bose's sound quality, most of their stuff sounds good, it's just mainly all their stuff is overpriced.

1- Audiophiles' dictionaries don't have Bose in them, PERIOD.
2- Yes there are a lot of alternatives that are not only cheaper, but BETTER. Far better.

haha... yeah on point #1. I'm not really fond of Bose stuff, that's why I'm asking for other suggestions and what they are.

Alternative to Bose Wave system that costs less.

1) Go to Wal-Mart
2) ???
3) profit

Honestly though, knowing it's for your grandma, make sure it's something with FEW BUTTONS and large ones at that. The last thing you want is phone calls all the time about it and you want something she can use easily. I doubt sound quality is a concern of hers.

Umm, and if it were priced properly, it probably wouldn't be bashed by audiophiles in general.

Yeah.... as stated before I know, Nobody else has any suggestions??? If bose isn't in an audiophiles vocab then what is? where are all the suggestions?

I've had Bose QuietComfort 2 headphones, while they are quite possibly the best headphones I've ever heard, I'm glad I didn't pay 300 bucks for them... Other than that I have sennheiser HD212 pro's, but I'd like to hear more of Senn's top models.

People who bash BOSE don't have BOSE. I have a Bose Soundock, it's awesome!

The part in boldface is very true. And for a reason.

As for your sound track, what's it like knowing you could have spent half the money and purchased the same exact thing?

Senn HD280s! $80! I doubt anything by Bose comes even close to these in sound quality and isolation.

There's too many people saying you could buy the same thing for half the money, but where's the real suggestions?

for an alarm clock I look for ultra small...I usually turn it off within a second of it coming on.

As I walk to my bath, if I do want music I can have my main on in about a split second.

I usually turn on the satellite which defaults to morning news.

However, for simplicity the Bose WAVE isn't so much out of comparibles...Cambridge is a good one yet it's still over $300.

As has been mentioned before, Bose is not a bad choice for audio, it just costs twice as much as the alternative.

I don't understand the outright hate for Bose though.

As in my previous post, get $250 out of your ATM and go shopping at Wal-Mart.

Yes, I acknowledge this, but I'm just asking for specific models... keep in mind I'm not exactly looking for an alarm clock, and I'm not looking for some 5.1 system either, just a simple great sounding stereo for a bedroom.

I had a Bose Accoustimass. Its in a landfill now if a dumpster monkey didn't take it. It sounded horrible, but I was young and stupid when I bought it.
