--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi,

I am looking to buy the MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum motherboard, but I read in a review in the UK in custompc magazine (link: http://www.pcpro.co.uk/custompc/lab...2-platinum.html)
that this board does not have a PCI lock and because of this does not overclock well.

Can anyone confirm these statements? From what I've read in other review e.g. at anandtech.com, the board overclocks very well. Is it that a new revision / BIOS allows a PCI lock?

Thanks.

There is no MSI K8N Neo2 revision. It has a functioning PCI/AGP lock period!
I think oldamn was referring to the ASUS boards that didn't have a working PCI/AGP lock in their first renditions.

I agree with subhuman. The Asus rev. 1 boards did not have a PCI/AGP lock. Asus added the lock with the rev. 2 boards.

The MSI K8N Neo2 DOES have a PCI/AGP lock. After reading many positive reviews on this board, as well as some positive posts regarding it in various forums I ordered one to go with a 3500+ 90nm. All the reviews I read stated that the board overclocks very well.

Ok, thanks guys - that's why I was a bit surprised when I read the above mentioned review at Custom PC, in which they say:-

"The Achilles heel of the MSI is a lack of a PCI lock, so when you raise the FSB frequency the PCI frequency also rises, which can cause the EIDE and S-ATA controllers to crash."

What are they talking about???
