Please when you get the P4T-E let me know how the TURBO Setting works!!!.I ordered the reg P4T-E for my P4 2.4 so if the TURBO MODE is faster let me no.I had a P$B with a 1700 P4 and with all the slots filled it was slower so I ran it with just two stick of 256megs of rdram which cost a darn fortune back when.

Just a question, what is the difference between the new ICS chips and the old ones? Also how would I tell if I got the "new" ICS chips? Is there any specific markings I should look for? I'm surrounded by motherboards all day so if someone could provide me with any specific markings or numbers of the "newer" ICS chips I would like to check them out.

Great rig you got there FKloster. I'm drooling with envy.

Bozo, is that a beta bios? .....

I will have all the info for you guys on Friday the 5th w/some benchmarking and stability info...

jeeezz...I feel so left out now...both you a Dusty now have G4's and I'm here stuck with my G3 and a friggen kayak 🙁

Nice rig indeed 🙂 I'm going through major hardware-upgrade withdrawal myself...but I must resist the urges and persuasions of you evil doers 😀

post some benches when youre done.......

Sorry...Ups wouldn't drop off my mobo without signature so I will have to wait till today to get mobo/cpu. Monday will have full benchmarking suite. Gen, the reason not two 512's is because they are...:

1) Rare
2) More expensive
3) higher density usually
4) Low density 512 even more rare than high density ones...

Wow, a thread about a guy getting an Intel chip and nobody says that he should have gotten an AMD chip. I tell ya, the people here are growing up. Why I remember back in the day when the trolls would have been all over fkloster.

BTW, congrats on your purchase! That rig will kick some serious benchmark a$$!!

Last Saturday, upgraded to an Asus P4B266-C, 1.6a Retail Northwood, two sticks of 512 DDR and WD 100gb w/8mb cache. Left all other SCSI stuff in along with sound, NIC and video, loaded XP Pro still running at default and on about the third needed restart for new software, thought "Screw it" and went to 133 FSB and have been running 24/7 at 2.128 ghz ever since. It is cool to the touch and the ASUS iPanel reports very low CPU and system temps; these things just hammer (oops!) and run cool as a cucumber. Zero, nada, zilch stability problems with anything on the system.

Ok updated...look @ first post for digits...

1) Booted up no problem @ 533 fsb w/1gb memory

2) Atacom shipped EXACTLY what I ordered... 🙂

3) Fancy heatsink for cpu was completely overkill and not needed....cpu temp is 29c under load...total waste of money 🙁

4) AMAZED that golden sample memory shows no visible artifacts @ 700mhz!!!!!

5) Core will not go higher than 315... 🙁

6) Motherboard fsb does NOT go over 133 so I'm stuck @ 2.4 but who cares... 🙂

voltage is cranked to max @ 1.65....temperature under extreme load (new codebug? benchmark in other thread) is 29c... idle temp is 29c too...

FKloster

i learned the same lesson as you, fortunately for me it was a much less costly lesson. i bought an AVC Sunflower to replace my retail HS. did absolutely nothing to lower the TEMP or the OC'ability. Oh well. it was only 20 bucks. it coulda been worse, i coulda bought a Swifty, oh wait. thats what you did isn't it. 🙂

have fun w/ the system btw. I love this P4.

<< 3) Fancy heatsink for cpu was completely overkill and not needed....cpu temp is 29c under load...total waste of money >>

intel did a really nice job designing the northy to not need uber cooling. heck, an athlon doesn't need ubercooling if you're not overclocking/volting it. t-bred should require copper bottom heatsinks for the better conductive properties of copper, since it looks like it will have a higher watt/mm^2 than a palo.

<< voltage is cranked to max @ 1.65 >>

i'd work on lowering that if i were you. .13 doesn't take as much overvoltage as .18 does.

very very nice system. i hope it serves you well until your next upgrade, in what, a year and a half?

Shark, the bois has the turbo rdram option...I enabled it...says it 'enhances rdram performance in the manual....anyways...its in there...

<< temperature under extreme load (new codebug? benchmark in other thread) is 29c... idle temp is 29c too... >>

Sounds like a faulty reading.

fkloster
Thanks for the answer.I was looking for that setting.I was told it wasen't a feature in the bios.

fkloster: Why don't you run a memory test to see if the turbo boost helps,It would be nice to run a sandra test to see 🙂.
