I'm not very knowledgeable about phones and spectrums. I do have tmobile and it sucks indoors. I have a Nexus 4, I like it a lot but it does not have wifi calling, LTE (well I think you can do it, but I don't need 30mb on my phone). I just want good call quality and for all my texts to go through indoors.

Surprisingly 2g is the best for call quality for me. I get -97 signal indoors, if I set it to 3g I get -113 or worse disconnected. If I buy an LTE phone or mod it for LTE does tmobile LTE penetrate walls better? Or is it worse like 3g for me.

T-Mobile has LTE 700Mhz band now, but it is in limited areas and only limited phones currently support it. Once they have that, then yes building penetration will be better. Until then, if you get a new phone, why don't you just get one /w Wifi Calling?

I don't believe LTE is used for voice yet? Other than VolTE or whatever it is called by Verizon?

Also if you are concerned about voice calls, only 2g/3g is used, lte is data only currently

no, t-mobile has deployed VoLTE nationally on it's network. as long as you have a VoLTE-capable device, you should be able to make calls on LTE

LTE typically travels/reaches worse than 2G/3G on the same spectrum, so that doesn't solve your problem (unless your area has 700mhz LTE which penetrates building better)...

this is why T-mobile also offers WiFi calling (at home on your home wifi, you can make calls through your wifi with the same/similar high-quality HD Voice)

alternatively, you can request for a cell signal booster (it "amplifies" the existing signal you get - it says you need 1-bar of 3G)

What phones are supporting VoLTE on t mobile now? I knew they were rolling it out but thought phone comparability was still pretty limited
