Not a lot of love for the current Windows OS lately, but I have to admit I am sorely tempted by the HD2 coming out.

The Upgrade offer is only available through Partner channels, NOT through corporate-owned retail stores! This makes for two separate BOGO’s, one for corporate retail which is doing new lines only and one for retail partner sales which is doing new lines AND qualifying upgrades.

The HD2 hardware is phenomenal. The webbrowser (using skyfire) is amazing. Full flash support. It comes preinstalled with swype (for texting) and has an AWESOME quality screen. All of that said, its still windows, which I think is just convoluted. That said, you can probably throw Android on this device and have a really rocking phone.

Oh, for what its worth, the internet speed is amazing. Much faster than my Nexus.

I have, but to be fair haven't used it a lot. I have used Dolphin browser a good deal though, but the HD2 was still much faster. I don't think the speed is browser related, but phone/reception related. It was evident when browsing through the marketplace too.

Yeah. There's something about Android needing a lot of horsepower for the same tasks the iPhone does quite efficiently. Maybe the resolution? Shrug. Well even the HD2 seems to fly. I've used Skyfire and Opera Mobile on older WinMo devices and it seemed decent enough.

I recommend trying xScope on Android. It definitely beats Dolphin IMO. Much faster, but then again I'm a Droid guy so I can't tell you how the Nexus One may fare against the HD2 :D

I know the article says its only through RPS, but corporate owned stores will also do the BOGO with full discount upgrades. I know this 100%

I think the resolution does hurt some Android phones, but I'm not sure its the only factor. I have a G1 and a Droid. The Droid has a higher resolution - 854x480 vs 480x320 - but it also has a much faster processor - OMAP3 vs ARM11. The G1 does basic operations of the OS like switching home screens, scrolling through the app drawer, etc, much smoother than the Droid. Weird.

Anywho, I'm fairly sure I'm ditching Verizon and going back to T-Mobile for the HD2. I figure if I hate it (I'm more concerned with the lack of a keyboard than the Windows Mobile to be honest), I still have the G1 to fall back on until something else I like more is released.

I think you'll be fine with the keypad. Since the screen is wider, it makes those keys a lot larger than other phones. Makes a huge difference, IMO. Plus it has swype, which is the future of texting on touchscreen phones.

I didn't think it officially came with Swype - thought the Omnia II was the only WinMo phone with it? Either way, I've used Swype on Android and I love it, so I'm getting it one way or another :)

I'm banking on the bigger, wider screen being better for typing, but I'm pretty gung-ho about real keyboards. My last phones were the Droid, G1, BB Curve, Nokia N95, and T-Mo Dash. Other than the N95, all were QWERTY phones. So we'll see.....

I didn't realize it had swype either. I was VERY surprised when I saw it. It has both Swype and the HTC_IME keyboard. Both are great, IMO.

I so want that big screen.

Also, does anybody know if the T-mobile HD2 will work on ATT?

It will work, but only EDGE speeds, and then only after unlocked, you can get it unlocked from a vendor on eBay.

ATT will likely have something similar soon, Im sure, the Dell Streak is supposed to be released soon with a 5 inch screen

5 inches?!?!?!?!? WOW. The HD2 is 4.3 and is simply massive. I think a 5 inch screen might be pushing it for a 'phone'. That said, I love the audacity. Let's see it!

Not to derail the topic, but isn't the HD2 basically the Supersonic Sprint's getting, but with Windows Mobile instead of Android?

I just swapped my cliq and 80gb ipod for the euro version HD2 and man this thing is insane and has a ......wait for it ...... A FLASH !!!!!!

The screen is huge and awesome, and is so smooth and flows like water from a fountain, great and clear calls and multi touch is cool and will get a the t-mobile verison off craigslist in a trade + cash deal but am happy with this one for now and there is not a whole lot of noticable difference for the type of web browsing I do,craigslist and a few mobile sites and emails so the 3G is not a big thing for me but we shall see...

I got this 2 nights ago and have been all giddy like a school girl ever since....:awe:

I'd LOVE to get an HD2, man, such a beautiful phone. The only thing that puts me off of it, is that Microsoft have said it's not going to get a Windows Phone 7 upgrade. Sure the XDA guys might hack it into working, and it'll probably work great, but I've moved beyond the need to haxor my cell phone. I do too much on it to trust it to machinations of a random internet guy.
