Basically its going to depend on the phone. Dumb phones can have pay per use, 200M, or unlimited.

Medium range phones can get 200M or unlimited.

Smart phones will get unlimited.

Not much of a change regarding structure or pricing. Glad to see Tmo is keeping up with the times but not killing us. I'd still like to have a ~1 gig per line for around $15/month but I'll be happy with them not going bonkers like the other guys.

So basically they're adopting the same system as Verizon (well, except that they're giving the middle tier a useful 200 MB instead of Verizon's ridiculous 25 MB).

I guess the questions are how strict they'll be about enforcing them. Will they be like Verizon and refuse to even activate a phone without a data plan? Or will they only require that for subsidized purchases?

Also, hopefully their middle tier ("Standard Smartphones") is more reasonable than Verizon. Verizon has a lot of really basic phones in their middle tier, which also doesn't make any sense except of course they get more money from them.

Well this sucks because if you have a high end smartphone, you can only get the $30 unlimited.
No choice to get the $10 200mb

My current plan is unlimited dumb phone data for an extra $10. No idea how much bandwidth I actually use though, but $10 is about all it's worth to me. (mostly just check email on the go, and use IM)

yup...that's the hottest deal if you managed to get on it with a non-contract phone.

I got that plan, works fine for N1 and unbranded phones, but for blackberries, you need the higher plan and you are limited somewhat in the phone choices.

Yup. It makes the option useless even if you don't use over 200MB... just because your phone is in their high end range and they won't let you pick this option.

makes you wonder what would happen if you used your own phone? Activate a dumb phone and then use an N1 or a Vibrant? Its not like they'd know.
