TMD voltage control?

Is there anything wrong with using a fan speed controller with a TMD fan? I seem to remember some people saying that it messes them up. I am getting a Zalman Fanmate 1 to go with a TMD fan on my heatsink, so I can turn down the voltage so it'll be quieter...
 
I've been using an Aeroflow on a Nexus controller without any problems for a couple of weeks. I'd be interested in a link as to why this would be a bad idea, though - I don't want to replace it just yet. 😛
