Topic says it all. Basically I was wondering if a Tivo2 can be used as a VCR. I don't want a subscription. I have no problem scheduling things and I don't want any recorded suggestions or care about repeating events. Basically a digital bare bones VCR that records a certain channel at a certain time for a certain time period.

Yes, you can use a TiVo as a digital VCR without a subscription. You may still be able to use it for repeating things at a specified time (say, record every Monday on channel 5 from 8-9 PM), but you obviously won't have the program guide or recommendations or anything like that.

AFAIK, yes. I just bought somebody one as a wedding present, and they were able to hook it up and use it before they had the subscription set up.

Series 2 is a big no on that count daddy-o. When I bought you got 7 days of functionality then all it will do is time shift tv (no recordings, just the 30minute live TV buffer) plus it will nag the crap out of you.
