I just got a ReplayTv 5040 for X-Mas.
I've been hanging around Planet Replay for most of my info.
Some of the things I like about it so far are.
1) Built in Ethernet! Add a Linksys WET11 802.11b bridge and you are connected wirelessly
2) Ability to rip the shows as MPEG's straight to your computer. And then possibly burn to CD or DVD (haven't tried this yet)
3) Control your unit from the web! my.replaytv.com allows you to connect to your unit and setup recordings, delete saved shows. This is limited though because your replay only updates once a night at 12AM. So you need to setup recordings via this method about 24 hrs in advance. There is a possible hack to force your replay to update at your choosing.
4) Ability to upgrade the Hard Drive. Just buy the cheapest Replay you can get your hands on, and swap the drives!

Overall great product. I still hate the service fee, but they need to make money some how.

I forgot about sharing shows on the internet. I have not tried this feature yet but I will soon.
Oh yeah I forgot that you can share shows on your internal network too. So if you have a unit upstairs and one downstairs you can watch shows off the other unit.

This is ridiculous. First I score the Series2 DirecTivos for $199 with 5 year warranty from CC and sell the older Series ones for $305 each on Egay. Now I get this one for $149 and I know I will get $200+ for my 40Hr Tivo. Upgrade and improve, and make money! :)

This is a great deal.
Thanks....

Hot deal, I've got an older Replay (30 hr hacked to a 60 hr by swapping drives) with lifetime service and a Tivo Series 2 (60 hr + 120GB add-on for 220 hr total) paying $13 a month for service. The TIVO wins hands down on recording smarts, conflict resolution and disk space management - believe me, this is what really matters! Also, the TIV Series 2 60 hr model is THE model that you want for adding an additional hard drive. The second hard drive mount is already built-in and pulling the hard drive, preparing the two drive setup and reinstalling them is very easy to do. Use the cheapest 120GB drive you can lay your hands on. My TIVO gets the honor of feeding my big screen TV and my Replay retires to the bedroom. :D

This is all just my opinion, but I have both a Sony TiVo (Series 1) and a ReplayTV (4504) that I use daily.

TiVo Pros/Cons:
Interface is great. Very easy to use and setup.
Season Passes and being able to skip recording Re-runs.
To Do List - List of upcoming recordings (never noticed how much I used this untill my Replay didn't have it)
Picture and recording quality is better (analog cable, digital cable picture is same).

ReplayTV Pros/Cons:
45xx Series have DVArchive - to move/copy shows to your PC for archiving.
30 Second skip is very nice.
Broadband enabled from go.
Can share to other Replays of the same series (45xx & 45xx or 5xxx to 5xxx)
SonicBlue developers help software programmers to help make software work better with the ReplayTVs.

I like both, each has it's advantages, but I would recommend the TiVo to friends and family, and ReplayTV to anyone that really wants to play around and deal with converting programs to SVCD or just us their HD to archive shows.

Just got in on this one -- too good to pass up.

If you plan on calling, allow plenty of time. CSR said they have never had a better response to any offer, because this is such a good deal. Their call center is absolutely slammed with calls. They also have a callback feature you can use, but I can't testify as to whether it's useful or not. I stuck it on speaker phone til they picked up...

Thanks for the post--been wanting one of these for years !

Can anyone confirm that this deal is dead? It's not longer listed on tivo.com, but I'm totally interested if it's still available.

man...i did this deal and received a dead svideo on my tivo2. called it in and they sent me a replacement while charging my card for the price of a new unit until they got the old one back. I was ok with that i guess THEN they dont provide shipping label for the return and tell me its my responsibility to return the unit and pay for it out of pocket!

Something wrong with that to me, receiving a defective unit then having to pay shipping to return it for the replacement.

IF THIS HAPPENS TO YOU ARGUE/PROTEST/JUMP UP AND DOWN/CRY/STAMP YOUR FEET ETC AND SPEAK TO A MANAGER AND THEYLL PROVIDE A "ONE TIME COURTESY" OF CREDITING YOU THE SHIPPING COSTS.

Just call your CC company, dispute the charge & drive on... I haven't ever pushed it -too- far, but Amex has taken care of every problem vendor I've ever dealt with, no stress, no mess.
