Tivo

Do you all think I should get a Tivo? Are they worth it? I use my VCR right now but thinking of getting a tivo maybe. Is there anything out there thats maybe better than a tivo?

Does Tivo really have that big of advantage over a VCR?

We just moved into our new home and we got Adelphia's DVR. We absolutely love it. There was no upfront $100 or $300 price tag. Just $12.95/mo. It works out really well for us. It doesnt have some of the features that Tivo does, like the recommendations and such, but is that really all that helpful?

Your own cap system>TIVO>VCR. Actually TIVO is great in the convenience area but I like capping stuff I want to keep directly onto my PC. I am currently using this for capping on my PC and a modded DirecTIVO for stuff I just want to record and delete.

Would it be worth it to pay the $299 lifetime fee for Tivo to not have a monthly fee if you buy a Tivo that requires this service?

I think the lifetime option is only good for the box you buy it for so when you upgrade to newer version equipment it would not carry over. DirecTV does not charge the fee when you have certain packages so I never really looked into it all that deeply.

So I would hve to have DirectTV service to beable to have no monthly fee with the Toshiba SD400? 🙁

Why is it so hard to find now?

When you use something like that, http://www.hauppauge.com/pages...ducts/data_pvr350.html, can you still use your computer at the same time while recording without a major slowdown or messing up the recording?

What happens if your pc crashes?

I couldn't survive without my tivo. heh.

I'm at work during prime time, so without tivo, I'd miss most of the good television.

Build you a myth tv box. Cheaper than tivo and no monthly fees 🙂

How do you do this please?

Basically get you a mid-range system (around 200$ off of FS/FT), add a tv card to it (40$ to 140$ depending on how fancy you want it), and download and install mythtv.

I helped my brother put one together and it rocks.

Oh now that looks so cool!

I love hearing this feature!

Support for multiple tuner cards and multiple simultaneous recordings

I bet you need 2 tv cards though to record two shows at once and watch a third at the same time.

I wonder if you could record three shows at once and watch a fourth show at the same time?

Can MythTV even record shows, movies, etc if their time changes because of a longer football game than expected, important news events, etc like Tivo says it can?
