I got a Tivo Series 2 (40 hours) for FREE after rebate.

We already own a ReplayTV 3060 (30 hours) which has no monthly fee. Bought this 3 years ago from Mercata(dot)com for $215 which included LIFETIME activation.

So what would you do?

1) Keep it, paying $12.95/mo
2) Keep it, pay lifetime activation $299
3) Sell it

sell it, unless you see a need to record 3 programs at once.

Replay3060 will remain hooked up to our main TV in the computer room (Apex 13").

The TIVO 2 will replace our ReplayTV 5040 hooked up to our Toshiba 27".

Sell it. ReplayTV is better than Tivo.

the extra 10 hours might be nice, but it doesn't seem worth it.

I don't think I've ever come close to filling up my Tivo, because I rarely leave shows on there for more than a couple days. whether or not you'd benefit from the extra 10 hours depends on your viewing habits, I guess.

I'd still sell it.

We actually prefer the TIVO interface over ReplayTV (hoping Ameesh doesn't see this thread).

Keep it around until Tivo2Go comes out. At that point you can decide whether it's worth having.

Man, Mercata. I remember that place. I think I have a JVC SVHS and a JVC DVD player to show for it. Great deals at the time:)

I think it's some mechanism where you can stream the content to your pc theoretically for burning to a DVD. There is great debate as to whether you will be able to stream FROM your PC back to your tivo. The details are a little sketchy as far as I can tell.

"TiVo subscribers with Home Media Option(TM) will be able to move their favorite programs stored on a TiVo DVR to a laptop for viewing on the road, or to any PC. For those who have a PC equipped with a DVD burner, programs can then be burned to DVD so users can take the TiVo experience with them wherever they go.

Accessing ?TiVoToGo? requires a TiVo Content Security Key and TiVo-enabled versions of the Sonic Solution (NASDAQ: SNIC) MyDVD® and CinePlayer(TM) applications.

Once this software is installed on the PC, the new TiVo-enabled MyDVD and CinePlayer software from Sonic will make it easy to find the ?Now Playing? programs on any networked TiVo DVR in the home.

Once selected, the secure and encrypted TiVo recorded programs are moved to the PC, where the TiVo Content Security Key is used to unlock the files for playback or burning, preventing files from being shared online, outside of the user?s home network. "

I have 2 tivo series 2's and they rock. I hacked both of them and also upgraded them with additional 160 gig drives.
