Really? I will check out the FS forums then. This was without service, service was $12.95 per month extra.

You know that you need a phone line at home for this right? People still have phone lines at home when they can carry a cell? hmmmm

I used have TiVO. Good Stuff.

Yes, I realize you have to have a phone line..........does anyone know if it has to be hooked up to it 24/7? I dont have a jack in the same room as the tivo would be in. How easy to put a bigger HD in these?

Tivo sends the data over phone line during "off hours" (depending on your time zone)

From what i know, tivo never included service with its price. Its competitor (by sony or something, i forgot name) use to charge $400 more than tivo but that included life time service)

You don't NEED a phone line.

You can put a ne2000 compatible network card in the Tivo, and connect it to a DHCP router, and download the channel guide over the internet. That's what mine is going to be doing in about 2 weeks!!

So don't let the phone line stop you!

My understanding is that option is only available on the Series2 Tivo boxes. Also, it is not supported by Tivo.

tivo is happier with its own phone line because it makes up its own times to call and shifts the calls all the time. Time to run some silver satin line if you plan on getting a tivo.

You can also tell the Tivo manually to make the phone call. So no worries... (however, it's easy to forget and when that happens, it'll stop recording your Season Pass's, etc..)

My phone line situation here is bad. I have a house that was built in 1898. I have one phone jack in the entire house.......now I have digital phone and its box sits under my desk. The underneath of the floor is sealed.......I guess I could run wire through the attic........never done it but it cant be that hard. Otherwise I have phone cord running along the walls, thats tacky. Need wireless hookups!

I have a PVR, although it's the competing ReplayTV (20 hours). Bought it for around $200 after rebate a while ago during the Mercata 20% off AND MSN Passport 20% off orgy of Hot Deals.

I love it, no monthly fee (you pay for that upfront it's incorporated into the price), 30 second skip button, I love the interface, it dials in every night around 2:00 AM which is no big deal since I'm asleep at that time.

Please, my children, do not spread DIS-information about something as great as the Tivo. You may cause people to not purchase one. Allow me to quote:

2. Using TiVo/Turbo/USB network adapters
Drivers for a lot of USB network adapters are included with 3.0. In addition, drivers for TiVoNet and TurboNet are included, assuming you don't want to run TiVoweb or any other app. This backdoor will only let you use the ethernet for guide updates.

Just connect the TiVo correctly to your network - make sure you are running a DHCP server (most routers include one), and then enter a dialing prefix of ,#401 -- that's Pause - Enter - 4 - 0 - 1.

DO NOT CALL TIVO SUPPORT IF YOU ARE HAVING TROUBLE WITH THIS. This is unsupported by TiVo and they will not help you if you have troubles. We, however, will help you as best we can if you post your request in the Underground.

And visit this webpage:

Turbonet adapter

YOU DON'T NEED a phone line. No matter which box you have!!!

The Series 2 has a USB slot that you can hook up the ethernet adapter. The Series one has the PCI slot inside the box. Visit 9th tee for all your upgrade needs.
