Is there a way to record TV on my computer? I read about a tv wonder ve card but it didn't work with win2k. I wondered if there was a tv guide and similar capabilities like TIVO without paying a monthly fee.

This is what i did I got a 128m ti 4200 with vivo.
Video out on the vcr goes into video in on the graphics card. Audio out vcr to audio in sound card.
I then use Power vcr II to do the recording very basic. But I mainly use the vcr to record and then watch back later on the computer.

I have an ATI 9800 Pro AIW- expensive. You really don't need this unless you are into gaming also. I record TV all the time, the burn DVD's from it. TV recording couldn't be simpler with the bundled software. I do the same with videos from my video camera.

I have a TV Wonder VE and it works in XP, so I'd assume it'll work in 2K...

While there is tvguide.com to provide listings, you may wanna look at something like
freevo for a fairly complete software solution. They recommend the WinTV cards for the hardware side.

Having used Freevo, I would say it is possibly the single best alternative solution out there! :)

Thanks for the freevo link, I think I'll try it too. Does it only run on Linux? I have Win2k. Thanks for all the suggestions everyone. Very helpful.

Yes, freevo is linux only. It's mostly designed for taking a spare box with some disk space in it and making it into a TIVO/CD player/DVD player replacement.
