So I agreed to buy a hard drive from him. He said he would try to ship on 9/19. or 9/22 at the latest. Instead, he lies to me and tells me that he shipped but instead ships on 9/29. I get the hard drive a week later than I should have. Fine.

But thats not the end of the story. Here are some pics of how the drive came:

The box cam looking like crap. It wasn't even taped shut all the way. Inside the box, he used a couple envelopes to "protect" the hard drive. This is probably the crappiest looking shipment I have seen in a long long time.

At least the drive works.

Shouldn't this be posted in the FS/T forum?

Wrong forum. Try the forsale trade forum.

Does the drive work? It might of had enough packaging around it.

I think this is a little uncalled for considering you did receive the product in a (somewhat) timely fashion and in working order.

The damage to the box looks like it was done en route, he had no control over that.

His choice of packing materials, albeit a little unorthodox, should not be a problem as long as sufficient quantities were used.

Cut a newbie trader a little slack, everybody has to start somewhere. Give him some pointers as to where to improve, but I wouldn't even rate this as warranting a neutral heatware eval, much less an honorary position on the do not trade list.

The hard drive looked packed ok, but, that box was way large for the task. There wasn't anything packed to the top of the box inside to help it maintain its integrity.

That's my only real qualm with the packing job, unless some packing material was removed before that shot more should have been used.

Not the end of the world though.

This is just wrong. Yes, he was a bit late in shipping, but that is forgivable. His packing is different, but obviously effective.

But you bashing him for the way the box was treated by the shipping company? Unforgivable.

I've shipped and received thousands of packages in the last 2 years and sometimes they get beat up like that or the tape becomes loose, etc. You shouldn't really blame him about the conditon of the box.

You paid for a working hard drive. You got a working hard drive.

Box - Primary Objective = To protect contents.

Whatcha flappin' your piehole for? If you want a pretty box, Run down to Wal Mart and get yourself a cardboard box to play with.

Ok, the box was not treated badly by UPS. The box was too big to begin with, which is why it was crushed enroute. The packing was not sufficient, the drive was banging around in the box the entire time. And again, if you didn't notice, he lied to me about shipping.

The boxes condition after he ship's it isn't his problem.

PM the person first before you air your dirty laundry publically.

You're right, its not the end of the world, but I just wanted to show how not to send something when trading on the boards. From my almost 4 years here, I've never seen a hard drive packed as poorly as that

If you couldn't tell, the majority opinion here is against you already. I'd hang it up now before you dig yourself even deeper.

The main thing here is, you took this public in off topic. A major faux paus

The fact that he lies about the date of shipping by one week, and using envelops as cushioning??

Maybe i'm just picky, but i expect better packing than a couple of envelops.

Uhm... of course its his problem. He can't help it if the carrier handles the package roughly, but if the person doesn't pack the box well enough its his problem.

true, but he should be able to make his fair complaint here so that people know to stay honest and considerate of the people they trade with. I trade alot here on AT and the things he described were pretty unacceptable. However, he shouldn't have this title so mean because it could be considered slanderous (libel). He should at least edit the title and say something like "here are some reasons not to trade...."

Ok, so some people disagree with me. I still think I'm right. I've been trading here ever since the board opened. I think I have a little more experience trading with people on here than you do. And I do know that no way in hell would I ever send something to someone packed like that. And I'd expect other traders here to have to same kind of standards when dealing with others.
