Proposed Title from article:

Your Employer Might Soon Be Able To See Your Private Messages In Illinois

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/kyle-...3513.html?utm_hp_ref=technology&ir=Technology

Illinois House Bill 1047 passed on April 19 on a 69-35 vote and is now headed to the Illinois Senate.

Under the proposed law:

An employer may request or require an employee to disclose any user name and password, password, or other means of authentication for accessing any accounts or services provided by the employer or by virtue of the employee's employment relationship with the employer or that the employee uses for business purposes.

The law goes even further in Subsection (4) in that it states that "Nothing in this subsection shall prevent an employee from conducting an investigation." Even if you have never used your personal accounts for business use, your employer may still be able to require you to hand over your personal account username and passwords if they have (undefined in the bill) specific information that you may have violated the law or company policy.

Undoubtedly this law (if passed) will end up in the courts to define, but not until several residents of Illinois have their lives turned completely upside down. One can only hope the Illinois Senate either removes the personal account access provisions or, at minimum, amends the bill to better define what constitutes business purposes and that personal profile accounts can only be access through (previously passed Acts) using the Justice System.

Did you RTA?
Just because he read the article and asked if there was a problem, does not mean that he did not read the article!!

Perhaps Jaskalas doesn`t have a problem with the article...

Seems like so far it is ONLY your problem...capiche??

Easy, don't use personal social media or email accounts for business purposes. Also don't use business email accounts for personal matters.

Did you RTA?

So you will turn over your Facebook account password to your employer?

Did you?

I am trying to figure out something that I do for work/have access to as a result of being employed that someone else at work can't already get into. Health care coverage? Nope - HR. Anything computer/network related? Nope - IT. Paycheck and 401k investing? Nope - Accounting and HR

I guess there would be a slight concern that they would know what password set/progression I use but that wouldn't bother me as I have different categories for work, work related (Health/paycheck/401k logins) and personal but I could see it being a concern for people who use the same password for everything

It's an evil plot by evil business to stamp out the distribution of funny cat pics during business hours.

I got news for you pal. A lot of companies already monitor every piece of info you send while on work computers. And Facebook is not in Illinois.

Why are people ignoring this part?
