Title Bond

My dad did a carfax (autocheck actually) on the 1989 Honda Accord LXi we just bought. What I can't figure out is why the first record that comes up is dated 01/08/1997. Under details it says Title Bonded.

This is all I've been able to find. It doesn't really explain much.


All of the records after that date are normal. It appears to be a clean title, but I dunno.

Somewhere along the line, someone lost the title or applied for a lost title, or didn't have a bill of sale.

I went though this with an old car my Dad had when he died. He had bought it from a used car lot, restored it, but never bothered to register it. I couldn't find the title. Had to buy one of those bonds and let the State do their search, then the issued me a title.

Don't know what other situations call for one.

Would that explain why there is no history prior to 1997? It still seems weird to me since there should at least be an entry for when the car was first driven off the dealer lot.
