I always kinda figured my parents gave me opportunity and ability. That's why I'll put them in a real nice home. One with birds for them to watch and stuff.

Well, god also seems to like to test people by heaping tragedy and unfortunate events upon them. At least he seems to not take any steps to stop them from happeneing. So if people decide they want to keep his 10% for themselves, to make up for his slack, then good for them.

There's a couple different ways to look at why unfortunate events and tradegy happen.

First off, it could be that we are so far away from God that we have allowed evil to enter our heart and have brought this negative events on ourself. IE: Good stuff happens to good people, bad stuff happens to bad people.

Secondly, it could be that God might be allowing these events to purify us...to give us a the ability to handle future events and build a stronger relationship with God. The book of Job is a great source of information on this topic. IE: "For examples of patience in suffering, look at the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord. We give great honor to those who endure under suffering. Job is an example of a man who endured patiently. From his experience we see how the Lord's plan finally ended in good, for he is full of tenderness and mercy" - James 5:10-11

I'm telling God I don't trust Chruches. There's a lot of religions out there at most one is right. Then you have to consider how many corupt people try to look closer to God than you for the sake of an easier life.

I understood what you were saying and I completely agree with you. [edit: agree with the whole corrupt and selfish people thing...not putting tithe in a savings account ]

If I didn't have membership in a church but believed that God wanted me to tithe 10% of my income, I would probably adopt a child or give it to another needy charity. I don't believe the bible states tithe has to go to the church, but rather to God and those in need.

Yeah, at some place in the bible it says something along the lines of "For every 10 ears of corn you grow one shall be mine, for every 10 sheep you raise, one will be mine... ... and I will give these to those people who cannot give to me"

I got curious and googled this issue. According to the first Link, the 1/10 deal is in the Old Testament, but in the New Testament, there is no specific %. Conclusion: Tithe that with which you're comfortable. More guilt=more giving?
