Titanium Jewelry

Why is jewelry made of titanium garbage? Just curious...for things like wedding bands for guys, I'd figure it'll be the best thing since it relatively cheap and durable. 😉

Btw....that site is pretty expensive for some titanium stuff. 😉 Shop around, there's cheaper to be found, just not sure of the quality since I haven't bought from any of the places. 😛

Titanium is not a precious metal. Sure its cheap but so is aluminum. 🙂

Oh and diamonds are?

One of the major things about titanium rings is that if you get in an accident, it is really, really hard for the paramedics to cut the titanium rings

I have a Titanium wedding band. It is much more durable than gold (my gold class ring is covered in nicks and dents, the titanium band is still perfect). It is also very light and does not tarnish.

The cheaper bands are always 'aircraft grade' titanium, which is an alloy designed for strength (rather than looks). It is aircraft grade titaniium that EMS crews have trouble cutting; pure titanium can be easily cut with handheld snippers.

you poor people can buy titanium jewelry all u want. just know that buying cheap jewelry defeats the purpose. titanium wedding band? LOL, if you dont have the money, dont buy it. I'm not a jewelry expert but i kinda agree with the uselessness of this thread, i spent a good amount of disposable income on my jewelry to appease my materialistic side. But I'm not a hater, so thanks for the deal... just struck me funny since i jus got back from my jeweler and man.....lol

I have a titanium/platinum wedding band and I for one didn't buy it cause I'm poor. I take mild offense that you would assume that just because someone chooses a titanium band they are poor. I choose it because I liked it and I thought it fit my style.

Thanks OP, they've actually got some nice looking rings.

Ditto that. I got mine not because I couldn't afford a platinum, but because I like the look of the Titanium. I also like how light it is, as I can't hardly tell I'm wearing it.

I agree. To each their own. Although I'm not married, I think I look ridiculous in gold and much prefer silver, white gold, or platinum for jewelery. I can see how some people might like the tint of titanium over that of platinum, as I prefer the tint of platinum over silver. Buy what you'll be happy with.

Titanium scares me. Imagine getting a titanium ring and never taking it off....you get old and fat and it starts to cut off your circulation. You can't take the ring off because it's too tight and you can't cut it off because it's titanium.... :Q Your finger dies, turns black, and you can finally take your ring off.

Diamonds are precious stone so uhhh I dont know what your trying to point out by your statement, heh.

One more thought on this...

One, thanks for the link, but I do have to agree the prices are not that great compared to what I find even in the mall jewelers around here..

For me, I have a Plat. wedding band, but actually plan on picking up a titanium one for more everyday use. The durability and weight are the big bonuses here. And hey, I really do like the look of some of them over more conventional Platinum or Gold rings. Money is not the concern at all. Praticality is....

Anyway, sorry to perpetuate a NOT HOT thread, but well, I won't make a habit of it..

This is actually a pretty legit argument. Ti is not a precious metal. The comparison to aluminum is not too far off either. The bulk price of the two materials is similar.

In my work we use a lot of Ti, Pt, Pd, and Au. We evaporate the stuff in a vacuum chamber to form electrical contacts. Every few years we send all our collected scrapings and flakes from inside the evaporators to a metal recovery house. They recover Pt, Pd, Au, and Ag. They throw everything else away.

Anyway, in regards to the original post, I have ordered from Justmetal before, and am actually wearing one of the bands purchased from that site right this moment, and I will give them high marks for quality and customer service.

Is Titanium a precious metal? No. But I don't recall anyone saying that it was either. Personally, I can't stand yellow gold. I like white gold and titanium is just fine. And the prices on that site are dirt cheap as well. If someone doesn't like titanium jewelry, great, but there are a number of people just on this thread who do like it. To each their own.
