I don't really see the need to go exploring the far-off reaches of the land of diminishing returns, especially with a solid looking competitor coming up.

The biggest good thing I see in this release is that the landscape soon could be good for the GPU market.

Also, yes, apples to apples comparisons should be mandatory. It's ridiculous comparing OC to non OC.
 
You should be able to OC this more than 980 SLI just because of way lower base clock. Also you'd have 12GB of ram. Between 980SLI and Titan it's obvious titan is the better choice.

I wish reviewers would only use OC results when comparing to other OC results. From that you would expect the Titan X is almost as fast as 980 SLI, which it is - at stock, but once you overclock those 980s as well it would look like the comparison of stock Titan X vs 980 SLI with a numbers increase on both.

I really wish they had a single 980 OC in the charts. They probably nearly match the stock Titan X performance. Still, a single GPU nipping at the toes of the previous "flagship" SLI is pretty nice. Dunno about $999 nice though...

The SLi scaling isn't that good, but still. 60% faster than an 980 GTX when oc, and 33% faster as standard. Seems like there is some OC potential

That's true. Overclocking my 980 SLI setup has been a pretty fruitless endeavor; the noise levels just get too high in gaming scenarios for it to be worth it for me.

That's why I keep 'em at stock.
 
Are they still using a reference 290X for their tests? How does that in any way accurately reflect the performance of the 290X's you can purchase today?
 
That is exactly why AMD has gone for a CLC with the reference 390x, to avoid such nonsense in the card's future.

Agreed, but at the same time there is NO justification for any review site to still be using a reference 290x. There is only one reason to do so, to make the card look bad. Anyway, for the price Titan X is meh to me plus I think Nvidia is sandbagging, they will magically release a faster version when the 390x hits.
 
I agree 100% with that, too. No excuses for using reference 290x at this point in time.


I think they didn't push the clocks to stay away from the 300w wall that AMD has no problems to get close to. Titan X BLACK (or whatever they decide to call it, the X is already black, and a full GM200), 15-20% overclock (50-55% over 980) for > $1000. I can already see it coming.

Their problem here is that AMD probably won't play their ridiculous pricing game, and GM200 in Titan form is much less impressive than GK110 was, providing even less justification for the price tag.
 
I still dont get why TITANX cost 1000dolars
Its not have DP and its only 33% Faster than GTX980 and GTX980 is already overpriced as hell.
TITANX is even worse than that.

Old TITAN cost 1000 because DP=cheaper card for profesionals.
 
I surely see a cut down card with 6gb coming,something like a 980 ti perhaps to counter the 390x?This card won't last long if the 390x ends up being as fast for half the price.

390x will be faster by 10-15%(if is 390x 50-60%faster than 390x in 4k) TITANX is only 33% faster than GTX980.
 
A pure gaming card is surprising to see. $450 over the next fastest card is quite the premium... but I guess some people will get the best of the best regardless of price. 290, 290X, and 970 exist for those who don't throw money at their computer.

And although that Titan X review is down, shame on Anandtech if they did indeed use a reference 290X. It's so misleading due to that throttling and, factually, almost no one buys reference any more.
 
So this is the 980Ti, not a Titan? Got it.

DP sounded unlikely from the start, and this is a marketing card only IMHO and has diluted the 'Titan' brand. This is a GTX card, not a prosumer option.
