Hi all,

I am trying to run this game on my second pc at home and the game studders like crazy at 1440x900. Its on a 965p-ds3 with C2D e6400@ 3.2 with 2gb of ram. I currently have onboard sound but will move to a dedicated sound card this week. I also am about to move to a 9600gt from an old x800gto2 oc to x850xt specs.

This compared to my older rig which is a Neo2Plat with opteron 165 oc to 2.5; 2gb of ram; a x800xt pe; x-fi card at 1680x1050 resolution which the game runs quite smooth.

Any thoughts what could be causing the problem.

Thanks

prepare to be called a pirate.

I would offer advice but I don't know anything about that game other than I think it's a POS, sorry.

I think it's just the game itself and it won't get fixed since Iron Lore closed it's doors. I've got a 2180, 8600 640mb, and 4gb pc6400 ram and it still stutters on occasion. I think we just have to deal with it.

I think if you portal a bunch of times in the game, the stuttering occurs more frequently due to a memory bug if I remember correctly. Does your stuttering happen the instant you start playing or over time after you've been playing for a bit?

On that note, have you tried a cracked .exe file to get rid of the copy protection?

Also try renaming the sound libraries folder and see if that gets rid of the stuttering. I don't have stuttering, but I have used either an X-Fi Gamer or Auzentech add-in PCI sound card when I've played it.

This may seem simple but you could try disabling dual processor support for the game.
Went I went dual core I had similar issues.

The game is just very poorly optimized, turning off shadows will help a lot, especially when it changes to night time. Also try to avoid using portals too much, the engine is constantly pre-loading textures so portaling around a lot will be detrimental to the framerate, and it can cause memory leaks pretty easily as well. It really is a badly coded game, it's one of the few titles I actually regret purchasing.

This is definitely an audio issue with the game and the realtek drivers. I updated the audio drivers and it helped when I started the game tonight but went back to stuttering in 1 minute. My dedicated sound card thats coming should solve the problem.

I'll let you know.

btw, the game plays like diablo so its not too bad.

I have an Creative Labs X-Fi, and I still get the stuttering problem. Annoying, but it isn't so bad that I won't play the game.

Yeah, I still get random stuttering as well even with RAID 0 HDDs, Q6600@3.0Ghz, 4GB RAM, and Crossfired HD 3870s. Gets worse as you portal around the game world too. If I play for more than an hour or so, I just shutdown and restart the game; this seems to help.

I notice that the sound also stutters now when I view clips and view movies after I oc'ed the system.

Is there any settings I need to apply to bios to fix this???

EDIT: added +.1 in the pci-e setting in bios and that seems to have solved the problem. Does the setting affect anything else???
