Titan Quest - Font Question

Hello,

So, I started playing Titan Quest for the first time on my PC and playing it at 1920X1080 resolution. Game is running beautifully, but the font size in dialogue boxes is way too small to read comfortably. Really stressing my eyes.

I tried lowering the resolution to 1680X1050 but the problem persists with the small size of fonts and lowering the resolution also has the added downside of the game running with vertical black bars at the side and looking bad... thus I reverted back to 1920X1080.

So, my question is, if there is a way/ mod to increase the font size of the in-game dialogue boxes so as to make the text legible to read comfortably when gaming at 1920X1080? Has anyone face this issue and found a solve to it?

Would appreciate any help regarding this. I'm running Titan Quest with Patch v1.30 on Windows 7 Ultimate (x64).

Regards,

There used to be a mod community for the game, and I'm pretty sure one existed, but because of the age of the game, it may be difficult to find some of those mods on sites that aren't having malware problems. I recently tried to download a skins mod, and it set off my virus scanner.

Their newest game, Grim Dawn, which seems to use the same engine, or a modified version of it, has a UI scaling option. I don't recall of Titan Quest does.

It is getting to be a old, but good fun game. Especially if you like Diablo or similar games.

You need to try using the older screen resolutions like 1024x768 or 1280x1024. Or if you have to 800x600. You will find most current monitors should scale well down to that seeing as it is about 1/4 of the size of a HD monitor.

Yeah you'll probably need to run lower res but try to make it one that should stretch to fill your display (so try 1600x900 or maybe even 1280x720). Won't look stellar although shouldn't be too bad and should help with the font.

It'd be nice if the longer potential "shelf-life" of a game on like Steam might help developers to try and push to put in a bit of extra effort so that their game/engine will scale up both on hardware but over time, so it won't need special hacks (that often have issues) to get whatever resolution you want.

Thank-you for the replies guys, appreciate it! I did Google quite a bit but couldn't find a working mod which lets me make the fonts of dialogue boxes in the game any bigger.

Next, I tried playing around with the resolution and set it to 1360X768. The game stretches on my monitor on that resolution and fills it up. The fonts look much larger and readable! The game looks a little worse compared to running it on 1920X1080 but at least I don't have to stress my eyes out trying to read stuff in the game and also while checking the map and mission details. :)

the advantage of the lower 1280x1024 resolutions is that they look better as the monitor uses actual 4 pixels per displayed pixel. Some resolutions in between start to look "odd" as the screen might use a odd pattern (every second displayed pixel uses 2 actual pixels). Or worse "averages" the colour of what is wanted over several actual pixels.

As to the second, some games might benefit from that, but the makers of titan quest (and expansion) closed their doors soon after the latter's release.

A quick search to find the date of closure. http://www.titanquest.net/

Looks to have been 7 years ago.

I just installed this game again after a bunch of years, and, it really is a snooze fest.
While the gfx are still OK, everything else is just so boring, it isn't funny.

Makes me wonder if I install diablo again, if it will be just as boring?

Sorry OP for going slightly OT.

I think that's a fair point. A lot of these action RPGs literally put me to sleep. Titan Quest wasn't that bad (but some of those D&D/everquest based ones on like the PS2 literally I fell asleep while playing them with friends), but something about it is just "off" and I never could get into it very much. Compared to Diablo, it doesn't seem as visceral. That's why D3 was a big letdown to me is it felt a lot more plodding. The first game was as well, and the control was even more limited, but that actually worked with that game. The atmosphere was much better and I think other limitations of the game just made it work. Diablo 2 kicked things up a notch, it was like hyper Diablo (it's really hard to go to a lot of other action rpgs after getting used to a high level Frenzy barb). I can't even really pinpoint what it is about Diablo I and II that make them so good to me.

Diablo I might be. I played through it single player (since I bought the Battle Chest, I'd originally played the first game co-op on the PS1 and had tons of fun even with the horrible loading times and other limitations compared to the PC version) a few years back and it definitely had some limitations compared to Diablo 2. Wasn't too bad though and playing co-op would've had fun still.

Titan Quest is one of those games which the first play through is a bit boring and hard to get into. Once you've gone through the game once, and started to see all the synergies of character builds, it sparks a lot more interest. Then you play through with the same character on harder difficulties, and you start to see really interesting gear, which open new possible character builds, and it hooks you.

Well, this explains a lot of the problems with Titan Quest, http://www.grimdawn.com/forums/showthread.php?p=37225#post37225 (from the devs)

You can play this on the hardest difficulty, and it is just more of the same, nothing really changes. Sure, the equipment changes somewhat, like getting 41% of X instead of 40%!
It also ramps up difficulty on the final act, 4, for no logical reason except to make the game last a bit longer.

The gear changes a LOT more than that. You start getting Cooldown reduction gear, and energy reduction gear, which leads to you being able to make builds based on skills previously not possible. There are also several boss fights which show up on harder difficulties, and the Hydra that shows up on the highest difficulty.

Also, a big part of the higher difficulties is the resistance penalties. You have to get more resistances to be able to handle higher difficulties.
