just out of sparks, whos your ISP?

PS generally they will not support routers some even prohibit them in their TOS. if you want to use ICS or a router your generally on your own.

the other thing I would try is setting the keep-alive setting on your router if it keeps up.

My ISP is comcast, I will try to replace the modem before I do anything else.

Bill

I have received a new modem (Motorola SB5100) and am trying to go routerless as this modem supports dual connections... we'll see how this goes.

Well I scrapped the "not using the router" idea and hooked my dlink back up to the SB5100... all has been stable for an hour... I will post tomorrow if any problems.

That's insane Tim if there is an ISP out there that "prohibits" Routers.

as an FYI you should not have these kinds of problems with a router, in fact they make your internet connection more stable...not less.

So true. I actually have Two Routers running. One is built into my DSL Modem and the other is D-Link 624. Connection and Routers never go down. Current setup here now going on going rock solid for 2 years. Went down only once for 45 minutes when Lightning knocked the Phone Co DSLAM Offline. They just had to reset the hardware by making a truck roll to the Remote Terminal because the remote software to reboot it was knocked off-line by the strike.

I aint kidding dmcowen I reads it on the intraweb so's it must be trues.

I was more trying to convey that most ISPs will not support you if your behind a router. I guess they figure if you can set it up, you don't need them ;).

I have Netgear rp614v2 also. This router worked for me for quite some time until recently OI woke up and my connection had been dropped, I was unable to get it back up through the router. Charter of course will not help me with a router hooked up but I have no problem whatsoever getting a connection when I go straight from the modem to my PC. Could possibly have something to do with the fact that I was unable to login to the web management utility a few weeks ago and am still unable, it doesn't even ask for a username or pass, just says I can't access it.

For fixing the random disconnects with the RP614v2, make sure your MTU setting in the WAN setup config is "1452". The router is picky with any other setting for cable.
