I wouldnt say they are running out of ideas, im sure all the studios get hundreds of scripts mailed to them everyday. They are just scared to take a risk and try something new, so they remake stuff to appease the name recognition in the public.

Or perhaps it's the public that is at fault, because "good" movies do relatively poorly financially while "bad" movies do better. 😉 So it's not so much an issue of not being willing to take a risk, it's recognition that the profits are better if they keep churning out crap. 🙂
