Tired of razor bumps!!!

Any guys out there with suggestions for getting rid of razor bumps? I try standard razors like Mach 3 and the like but they do a number on my neck. I've tried Magic Shave type powder mixes but that didnt' do the job either. I can use a regular razor on the side of my face and jaw, but anything I try on my neck gives me bumps.

Do electric razors work any better? I haven't tried them yet. That's the only other thing I can think of. 🙁
 
make sure blade is sharp...use the hot water rag to raise the follicle.....make sure you keep it lubed well...and if you still need a little help rub some aloe hydro cortisone cream blend around the area...IMMEDIATELY after shaving.

 
I'm guessing you're using a cold ass blade prior to shaving every morning? Try turning on the hot water and putting your blade under it while you brush your teeth; shave, and see how that works for ya, you'll notice at the very least it's a smoother shave.

Make sure to use a decent aftershave, too.
 
It helps to get the are nice and warm. Try sticking your face/neck in a pretty warm stream of water from the shower.

Shave while you're in the shower. Really.


I got in the habit during my undergrad winters in Illinois dorms. I had to carry all my stuff to the shower and bathroom down the hall anyway and the bathrooms weren't heated. I showered, shaved, and brushed my teeth all while in the hot shower.

The only problem is that I now make a huge mess if I try to brush my teeth or shave and I'm not in the shower.
 
I shave in the shower and use aftershave, and still get razor burn and ingrown hairs on my neck. 🙁

Yep, I started shaving in the shower back in my senior year of HS, worked out great so far. Never heard of the brushing teeth thing, but to each their own.
 
I rub in some sandalwood oil from the Art of Shaving, and then use some of their shaving cream. Both are freakishly cheap now and last a long, long time. Hell, I recommend the pre-shave oils for everyone.
 
i must be crazy then, i use a Fusion in the shower, no shaving cream, no soap, no aftershave, nothing, and i never have any razor burn, ingrown hairs, etc...
 
if u don't shower in the morning, soak the area with warm water for a bit. spray some vinegar on for a few min, then shave with the grain. it's the african man's secret technique, but i share with u guys cuz i love ppl of atot town <3 almost as much as lazytown 😕
 
here is an unconventional thinking, I don't shave, I pluck. It may be a pain to the first timer, but plucking is so much better than shaving.
 
Do you have curly hair?

I do and nothing I tried would stop razor bumps. So for years now I use a beard trimmer and trim as close as possible. Leaves a light 5 O'clock shadow, but no more bumps and irritation. I often grow a very light beard (3-5 days) and use the trimmer to shape it. Shadows and light beards are sexy now anyhow so it's no big deal like it was years ago.

For some people with curly hair, ingrown hairs and bumps are unavoidable no matter how you shave.

Edit: Even the military has recognized this problem and you can get med profiles from the base derm clinic that allow you to trim rather than shave.

Seriously. I can't even grow a full beard (and I'm 21), but plucking would probably take an hour at least. I don't spend that much time in the bathroom over the course of a standard day.

I use this for my shaving cream (lasts about 6 months), a cheapo brush from drug store (although I will eventually get a good one) and a mach 3. Haven't had any problems since.

I did try the Vulfix brand of shaving cream last time around but I don't like it as much. I get much more irritation with it so I will go back to the Taylor.
 
have to agree with several others: shave in the shower just before you are ready to get out, so that you are well steamed. also shave with the grain of the beard; each guy is slightly different so experiment until you find your pattern. use sharp razor.

there are a couple guys i know that just can't use razors and have to go the electric shaver route. that might be your option.

Very interesting. Made me want to go try a badger brush and shave cream.

Yep. That was a good read. I think I'm going to see if I can find a decently-priced badger brush, considering how highly the guy weighs it. Apparently it's the most important component of your shave that you can upgrade.
