Potholes will not cause the tire to wear early. They will cause flats, blowouts, rim damage, sidewall blisters, suspension damage, steering alignment problems. I had one go down on me on RT80 in NJ after a small piece of debris cut down the sidewall. Another time I was on the FDR Drive in NYC and while in the Northbound underpass near the Mayors house, there was something in the road, that I and others could not see. It took out both right side tires. Not a good time at all. Pulled off at next exit to a gas station, put on the spare and had to buy a used, not really correct size tire to use in order to get home. Next day had to get 2 new tires ($125 or so each)
