I was driving to visit my gf who is 2 hours away and on the way there I got a flat tire. Anyhow, I quickly had to find a shop to fix this because I am only staying for the weekend. Everyone is closed on sunday so this had to be done sat asap. The shop (Monroe muffler) I went to, said they had an exact match for the tire. Based on that, I decided to let them change the tire as the punctured one was unrepairable. So before they close, I come and pick up the wheel and go to my gf's place to change it. There I realize that the tire is close to what I have but not an exact match. Specifically I had goodyear eagle ls-2 and they gave me goodyear eagle ls. (first gen). Now I have 3 same tires and 1 with slightly different tread. I have to leave tomorrow and the shop is closed now and tomorrow. How important is it to have same tread. Can I keep it on without any issues later on? I will try and call them on Monday and maybe a local Monroe muffler would be able to swap for the exact tire, but I'm not sure if this will work.

What kind of car do you have? FWD? RWD? AWD? Which axle did they put the new tire on?

I wouldn't think it would be a problem. I drove an '00 Cavalier with an odd tire and never had an issue. After a few years I got two new tires and had different treads on two of my wheels. Again, no issues.

Car is 2011 corolla. Was put on rear passenger side. And I don't think I'd be safe to drive 2 hours highway speeds on spare. Hence me needing a new tire.

I've had a vehicle that had different treads on the left side as the right(damn tire place sold me two different styles). In good weather I never noticed, but in heavy snow/ice then it tracked a little oddly.

As long as the tire is in good shape you should be fine. It would be more of a concern if it was on the front, but mostly due to size difference from the wear the 3 have. However since that car has an open front diff it would be more acceptable than one with a limited slip diff.

It's not ideal, but it won't hurt anything.

This. I would be annoyed, primarily because they said it was identical, but on that car it won't affect anything or matter much. Personally I would try to keep it on the rear although eventually you'll need to rotate it forward.

I have a scheduled tire rotation this Saturday , so it will go on the front. It seems that the consensus is that it won't matter much which is good to hear. I am going to call the place today and see what they can offer but I doubt anything will come out it.

I would ask them to order the correct tire and ship it to your local tire place, and have local place send old tire back... But it's unlikely that they will do that.

As long as your car has independent ABS, which it probably does, then it really should be fine.
