I worked rotating shifts for a while. Going from 1st to 3rd shift wasn't as bad as the transition back to 1st again. Just take some energy drinks for the first couple of nights. It took me about 2 days to get used to the shift.

I slept right after work. I usually got home around the time my wife was leaving for work, so I'd crash. I loved not setting an alarm. I'd wake up around 3-4PM .. I'd have all evening at home, then went to work when my wife went to bed. I'm not going to lie ... I loved having the whole bed to myself. :)

I fall asleep in the front row of my geology class almost every day

When I was in the Army, I could fall asleep at the drop of a hat. That was good because you never knew when you'd get a chance to sleep.
Now, my mind is always going 100 MPH and I often need chemicals to get and stay asleep. Plus having a bad back and turning all the time to get comfortable doesn't help.
