Tips for a College Interview

I've never had a (real) interview before and I have one tomorrow for Washington University in St. Louis. Any suggestions/tips?

No, I'm applying as an undergraduate and I'm not applying for any particular program.

be normal.

ask questions also not just answer what they want.

You can ask about the city, weather conditions especially since your in california. For us its pretty much sunny all the time. Snow? what's that. well there's the occasional wild fire but eh.

Be interested in the school, don't ask cookie cutter questions, and make sure you cover the topics about yourself that you want, so that when the interviewer leaves and writes you up you'll look good.

For example, if you both have something in common that you are really interested in, don't talk about it exclusively even if the conversation is going very well, because when the interviewer sends his writeups to the admissions council (that he/she might not be part of) it'll just say "John is a good kid, and likes to ski."

Look at the application you sent them and select several of what you thing are your strongest attributes (this doesn't have to come from the app, but if you did a good job with that they'll all be there) and make sure that you find a way to fit most if not all into your interview so that the interviewer has something to write about in his report.

Have fun! Make eye contact. THINK! Think what you are going to say before you say it. Be yourself. It should be a conversation not a monologue. Ask the interviewer questions about the school. This is your chance to learn more

Good Luck!

i would say one of the most important things you can do during any interview.. is to ask really good and organized questions at the end when they give you a chance
throw out at least three thoughtful questions out there

Use a posh accent and dialect. Refer to yourself as "one" rather than "i" and use a complicated word like aphrodesiac. Sorted

you dont need to wow them with your credentials or anything. it's about getting to know you as a person and why you want to go there. make sure you know why you want to go there.
