I had a new couch delivered to my apartment today. Medium sized couch, took two big guys all of 5 minutes to unload and bring it inside. After that I signed all the papers, said thank you and closed the door behind them.

I kinda feel bad now that I didnt tip them, maybe I should have? What would be a correct tip for something like that?

Whats the general consensus among ATOT about tipping the furniture delivery guy?

I would tip 5 each if it took them like 5 minutes. If it was a TV or something bigger.. 10 each or 20 for one guy.

I don't get tipped when I do my job. Why should I tip someone else for doing theirs (except, of course, wait staff that don't make a full minimum wage)?

Edit: Thinking on it, if someone really goes above and beyond their duties... I've been known to tip. Just not very often, and it's been a LONG time since anyone did more than the bare minimum.

Yeah there's nothing like a good old monetary blow job.....:disgust: Tipping is overrated and people get carried away with it. I think it is customary to tip people who do personal services, like wait staff, barbers, valet, bell hops, etc. Furniture delivery guys don't cut it in my book.

Why tip for something I can do myself? I can and do cut my own hair. However, I do tip my urologist, as I am unable to pulverize my own kidney stones.

I thought a cold drink was customary for furniture deliveries. Just give them some cold, bottled water or soda.

If they do an extra service that they are not supposed to do like help you rearrange your furniture or take down some old furniture then you tip.

Just got a new kingsized bed and 2 night stands for the bedroom last week. The guys showed up, they were more than efficient and were careful not to damage anything. They were in a hurry to get to the next job and didn't even hesitate on leaving.....and I had plenty of $10s in my pocket. I guess in this area, people just don't tip them often enough for them to expect it. On top of that, they probably get decent pay for what they do.

Sometimes I tip the furniture guy and sometimes I don't. It typically depends on how much, if anything, I've already paid the store for delivery.

One guy delivered my 56" dlp. I had to help him a couple times. Did I tip? Hell no.

[edit]

Same thing happened when I moved from LA to FL. There was only one guy (Mayflower). He took forever and I had to help a couple times.

They'd have to go above and beyond before I start handing them cash.

I had a new fridge delivered and the delivery guys dropped it on my kitchen floor. No tip for them, but I did get a new kitchen floor from the deal since it got damaged so bad it could not be repaired.

Just a cold drink. They make pretty good money for what they do (a job that requires no brainpower). No tips.

I was thinking about offering them a cold drink, but the only thing I had to drink was gross tap water or cold beer, and it was like 10:30 in the morning. :p

REPOST.

... and no... they probably get paid more than me to do the job. Tipping in general is stupid, so I'm not going to hand out tips when it's not socially expected.

I only tip on heavy deliveries as I live 3 flights up. If its something I can pick up myself, I do that. I just meet them downstairs and pick it up myself. If they have to schlep it up my 3 flights I usually give 5-10 bucks. Ordered a new table a couple of weeks ago and the glass top was about 100lbs alone so I gave them 10 each (2 guys) and a drink. Its nice to tip for hard labor. These guys do not get paid that much. But, if it from Best Buy or a company who owns their own trucks, I usually dont tip them. Those guys get paid well. I ordered a fridge and the 2 Best Buy idiots dented the door so no tip for them and I demanded they ship a new door which I installed myself. Took 3 minutes to put the door on.
