Tipping the cable guy...

Um, no. He should be making more than minimum wage anyway. Cable guys are usually electricians with degrees, right?

I don't think most of them have degrees.

Only if he gives you the porn channels for free.
Okay, yeah, fine. If he's doing you "extras" like that, then I'd slip the guy a $20 or a $50.

If I had to wait for an 8 hour window of time for this guy to show up, plug the cable box into the wall and into my TV, hook up a cable modem, and pay the cable company a $40 "installation fee", why the hell would I tip HIM??

You know Independence Day was just a movie, right? Everything in the film was made up, including the cable guy being an MIT grad...

many of us have also won nobel prizes, but we don't like to blow our own horn.

A friend of mine installed cable for a local cable company, and they paid him $8.50 an hour to install cable in some of the crapest environments. So, no, they dont get paid an assload, and no, I dont tip them. I do my job and I dont get tipped, why should they?

I was a contracted cable guy off and on for 5 years. (TWC, Manhattan.)

An avg. weekly paycheck was in the 4 digit range. I got tipped maybe $2-300 a week. Times were good. Then 9 fucking 11 happenned and people stopped tipping and the economy took a shit on itself.

I miss the good old days. 🙁
