Tipping in Hotels?

Since I'm going to be staying at hotels all the time for my job, I was wondering how much should I tip the people there? I can carry my own bags, so I don't have to worry about tipping the bell boy. I read that you should tip around 15-20% at hotels, but to who? I'm certainly not going to give the cleaning person $15 just to switch my sheets and towels.

id say leave anywhere from 2-5 dollars a night that you stay for your maid.

Rats, misread the title. I thought you were posting about trippin' in hotels. That's more fun. Psylocibin is teh hoot!

depends on the hotel.... if you left $5.00 for a weeklong stay at the St. Regis, it would not be a good thing. 😉

usually i will tip $5.00 for two nights stay at a hotel and $10.00 for up to a week.

People tip for regular hotel services other than bag carrying? Never heard that one before.

I tip two places, food service and haircuts. Not sure why, but that's tradition. Don't tell me I have to go around tipping everyone now.

If after a few days you haven't left something on the pillow for them, they may do the old "setting of the alarm clock for 3:00am" trick.

depends on level of hotel and what you make.

Depends on the stay and level of service as well.

If I get funny towel figures and mints and stuff it scales higher, if things are neglected it scales lower...I also self-clean a bit...I don't fully make my bed, but I do put all soiled linens/towels in a pile.

On a long weekend I will leave $5 to $20.

DoubleTree (part of Hilton, but I have no idea what level it's considered as) and it will be weekly for the next couple of months (5 days a week). Do you leave one tip for entire stay or a bit each day?
