I am really terrible at tipping and often tip when I am not supposed to. Do you tip contract workers? I know you don't have to tip contractors who contract the job but what about the workers themselves?

While I tip, I believe the entire tipping concept is a crock. Why should I help pay someones salary?

I would like to invite you to come to europe, where they dont really tip. First the typical restaurant will have 1 waiter for 15-20 tables instead of 3-5 in the US. anyways, it takes about 45 minutes to order. then, they just dont care, so it takes another hour to get your food. lastly, it takes another hour to get your check. tipping = capitalism = much better service.

A laborer? Get them some soda or water, that's all you need to do to be nice.

Because they are providing you with a service. If service is good they make more if not then they do not just like sales.

Depends on the work though and what they do for me. Like the cable guy hooked me up so I tipped him. I also tipped the guys that put in my carpet b/c they did some extra shit I didnt pay for and were totally awesome guys.

You already paid for the service, why should you pay for it again?

Because a lot of waiters make less than minimum wage because their employers know that tips will be part of their $$

Tip if you want to, not if you feel that you should. I've tipped the guy at the drive through before because he had great character :) I've also left many a waitress tipless because of extremely shitty service. I tip well for a job well done though. If you feel like the work put in is worth a few extra bucks then go for it...
