Today we bought a signal amplifier from Best Buy and Radioshack to try and improve the TV quality for my brother since he has an ATI TV Wonder VE. This signal boost from the amplifier did a really good job! If you have one, just try it out because it makes a world of difference. Now when I go to his room and see him watching TV, it looks pretty good and not so "pixelated" because of the difference in resolution between his desktop and the TV signal. Once I get my TV card, I'm going to do the same for my computer.

Do i amplify the signal going directly into the tv card? I split my internet cable into two: another internet and the tv line. So where would i place the amp?

It will amplify the signal going to wherever you want it. For Internet access, it won't make a big difference, probably only 1-2% difference in speed. You can place the AMP in the basement with all your other wiring and setting it up iis pretty simple. Just connect a cable input, and then connect whatever you want the outputs to be. If you don't have access to those wires, then just put it wherever your computer is. Connect the socket from the wall to the cable in on the amplifier and then connect your modem to one of the 3 or 4 outs on the amp and the TV card to another out on the amplifier.

The amp may only send the signal out and not in. I haven't tried it yet myself but it won't help much if any because the cable provider has caps on the speed so usually it won't help for internet connections.

Does the TV line need a bi-directional amp? Or is that only with the cable modem?

Could you tell me what the make and model of your amplifier is?

I bought a "signal booster" from radio shack because the picture on my TV tuner is mediocre compared to TV. It didn't really help me. Is a signal booster the same thing as an amp?

I got one from Radioshack too. Their's didn't help at all if any. I got one at Best Buy which improved it a lot and it was a ton cheaper.
