Last month I was paying $114 for digital cable + cable internet. I decided to cancel cable TV because of the ridiculous price. I called to cancel my cable TV service and I ended up adding HBO and Showtime and lowered my bill to $70. That's right $70. Here are the details:

Changed to basic cable (no more ESPN or Fox Sports, but I still have Foxnews and CNBC whew) for $35.
HBO and Showtime free for 6 months, $5/month after six months for the following 6 months. I'll probably cancel after 1 year.
Lowered the cost of internet to $35.

I do not get how this happened, but the rep explained it was some kind of promotion.

So for all you comcast customers out there, try calling to pretend cancel your cable TV and see if they can lower your bill!

I pay $20/month for HSI from Comcast, plus $50 for DirecTV Plus with UltimateTV.

The secret to Comcast is to:

1. Sign up during a promotion.
2. When the promotion runs out, call Comcast and ask to remove extra services because price is too high. Tell rep you only want to spend x dollars per month (say $90 for digital cable + internet)
3. Comcast rep will likely offer a new promotion good for another 6 months.
4. Repeat steps 2 and 3.

My mom has been doing this for years and never pays more than $100 per month for digital cable, internet and movie channels.
