I'm going to get my hair done at an amazing place... Last time I was so happy that I foolishy gave a $10 tip for a $20 hair cut...That's a bit excessive so what's a fair tip for a VERY good hair cut.. The standard 15% seems a bit low..

Since 15% of $20 is $3, why not just give $25?

Granted, I think it's excessive, but that's just me.

Hrmm I go to a place for $10 dollars and i give a buck for tip. $20 bucks? geez, just give up like 2-4 bucks, you're robbing yourself with anything more.

Tip, err, poor college student here. If it is exceptionally good, then maybe I will tip but most of the time I don't tip. I just go to a walkin type place anyways with no appointments and I never have the same stylist.

I've been going to the same barber shop for a long time now. Hair cut is $12. I just give them a $20 and tell them to keep the change.

wow, generous tippers for haircuts here. What do you guys tip at a restaurant?

I usually tip $1-2 most of the time but it takes all of 10 minutes to give me a haircut and that costs $12 so I have a hard time paying much more than that.

I think the place I got to charges ~14 for a haircut, I hand them a $20 they give me 6 single back, and I usually tip between $4 and $6. $4 if it's some random person who did an ok job, $6 if it's the person who usually cuts my hair (and usually does a good job).

That seems pretty reasonable. I basically assume that they are making almost nothing for an hourly wage - probably a few bucks an hour - and I figure they "should" be making $15-20 an hour, so my $5 tip is pretty representative of the 20-30 mins of their time I use up.

Edit: To clarify, this is a "barbershop" that has about 6 people cutting hair. I figure most of my $14 goes to their overhead and shop expenses. It's not like the owner is the only guy cutting hair, etc.

50% tip on a $20 haircut isn't too unreasonable, it's not like it was a $100 meal or drink tab.

i cut my own hair because i can't get $2 haircuts like i did when i was in the navy

i think $25 for a good $20 haircut makes sense, well, a $20 haircut doesn't make sense, but anyway, i like to tip well when it is deserved

is this a hotchic haircutter girl?

Being a hairdresser, I'd say on average I get 5 dollars on 20. I do get 10 from some long time good clients. But honestly I would never expect that on average!

my barber gives a most excellent hair cut for 8 bux and no tip. he makes more money all of collecting the hair that he cuts off of people and selling it. he also uses the hair to insulate his business and his home.

I've been going to the same barber for 5 years now. A haircut costs $15, and I always give him a check for $18. His costs are limited to: scissors, combs, rent, electricity. I think he does pretty well, as he's ALWAYS busy.

I get my hair cut every 3-4 months and it costs $40 and takes about 2hrs or so. My stylist does a very good job so I usually give her $10 or buy her lunch if it's around lunch time. And the reason my hair cut is such a PITA is 'cause it gets cut, bleached, and dyed 2 different colors. And, IMO, $40 is a great deal for the amount of time and work that she puts into it.
