Tiny (few pixels) static bar at top of HDTV.

My Time Warner and HDTV package has worked great on my Westy 42" 768i HDTV for the last few months.

Well, there was a contract dispute where this region couldn't air FOX and ABC in HD. It was finally settled and Time Warner told me to reboot my box to get the channels.

Now, most of the channels have a small 1/8" static bar at the top of the screen and the picture is right justified about 1/8" as well. I know it's not the TV because the "Side bars" on non-HD broadcasts do not have the static bar up top. Also, DVDs, and Xbox360 doesn't have this problem.

It's like the signal they are sending is jacked up.

Anyone else seen this?
Tips?

Time Warner support has a 30min. wait time. I figured I'd ask here while I am waiting. 🙂
(I have rebooted a few times and tried different TV settings and cable box aspects and resolutions)

From what I've read at avsforums, that's where the closed captioning text is at on the cable signal. My Westy 37" LCD had the same problem. It wasn't on every station, but a good majority of them.

I sometimes get a white line at the top of the pic with Time Warner here in NC. Not sure of the channels though and it's sporadic.

The 32" LCD HDTV I got at home had image adjustment options where you could slightly adjust the position/ size, does yours have anything like that?

But, if it's really 1/8" out of 42", but still that annoying, making the image scaling slightly bigger would get rid of it, and I doubt he'd even notice the difference on other (DVD, etc) sources.

My TV has no adjustments like scaling or shifting, that I know of.

Maybe it does...?

It does, but they are super secret. They can be accessed holding down interesting keys on the remote. No I do not know how to do it on your TV.

Thanks. I will start Googling.

when you reset the cable box, it probably reset the output settings. if you enter settings and select more options you should be able to pick 720p, 1080i, etc, and by trying different settings you might fix the problem.

Sounds like you're going to need to adjust your overscan.

My Samsung HDTV broke a couple weeks ago and the repairmen had this special remote control that put you directly into the service mode. I had them change the setting exactly to how I wanted it.

I will try to find out how to adjust that... but I can't find anything now.

I tried changing those and it didn't fix it.

Well, switching to HDMI fixed my problem.

My TV only has one HDMI input and I had my DVD player hooked to it.
I put my component cable on my DVD player and HDMI on my cable box.

I found out how to get into my service menu though.
Turn on TV while holding Vol(-) and Input on the TV.
Press Return on the remote control.
To save the settings, you need to go into the regular menu and do a Factoery Reset.
